CAIRO – 22 June 2022: Egyptian Institute for Diplomatic Studies and its Mexican counterpart have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation and exchange of expertise. The signed MoU includes holding training programs and sessions, organizing researches and joint studies, and exchanging diplomats, experts, and researchers in the fields of mutual interest. During the consultations, the Egyptian and Mexican delegations highlighted the importance of continuing coordination on issues of mutual concern. Abdel Latif expressed Egypt’s keenness to boost cooperation with the Mexican side in all fields, especially trade and communications besides tourism and cultural and scientific exchange. The meeting addressed means of enhancing bilateral relations between Egypt and Mexico at all political, economic, and cultural levels.

Foreign Minister of the Libyan outgoing Government, Najla Mangoush, discussed with Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohamed Al Thani, the latest developments in Libya, including parliamentary and presidential elections. The mandate was renewed with the votes of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling party and its nationalist allies which hold a majority in parliament. The mandate first came into force in January 2020 following a security and military agreement that Turkey reached with Libya’s U.N.-backed administration in Tripoli, western Libya. The request said Turkish troops were continuing to provide military training and consultancy in the country. Turkey’s support for the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord helped turn the tide of war in Libya.

The President of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri, proposed to the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Libya, Stephanie Williams, to hold a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Aqila Saleh, in the city of Ghadames, west of the country, to discuss the outstanding points in the constitutional process. Meanwhile, Williams announced on Monday, the end of the third and final round of the joint constitutional track committee formed from both the House of Representatives and the High Council of State, without deciding the constitutional framework necessary for holding the elections, calling on the presidency of the two houses to hold a meeting after ten days. Al-Mishri affirmed, in his letter to Williams, which was published by the Media Office of the High Council of State on its Facebook account, the continuation of what he called the policy of consensus while preserving the constants, and his full readiness to meet President of Parliament, Aqila Saleh, to discuss the outstanding points.

CAIRO – 21 June 2022: Egypt and Saudi Arabia have stressed their determination to increase investment cooperation and trade exchange in the coming period. The final statement cast light on a Saudi plan to pump investments in Egypt at a total of 30 billion dollars. Both leaders stressed that they are keen to guarantee the security, stability and territorial integrity of Lebanon through backing all reform measures taken by the Lebanese government. The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity and Minister of Defense Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, has met with the Chief of the General Staff, Mohammed Al-Haddad, stressing the need to maintain the security of the capital Tripoli and the safety of its residents. PM Dbeibah stressed the need to follow up the work of all military units, warning of any military movements without instructions from the Chief of Staff. A group of members of the High Council of State (HCS) aligned with the Prime Minister-designate of Parliament, Fathi Bashagha, are demanding the incumbent PM Abdul Hamid Dbeibah to hand over the government HQ smoothly. In a statement Monday, the group called on Dbeibah to "assume his moral and legal responsibilities," arguing that the term of the Government of Nationa Unity expires on June 21, 2022, according to the Libyan political road map set in Geneva last year. The statement called on the UN mission and the international community to recognize Bashagha's government, backed by the House of Representatives (HoR) as the sole legitimate authority across Libya. They also urged the HoR and the HCS to resolve the remaining points of contention that are being negotiated in Cairo as soon as possible. PM Dbeibah insists that his government would only transfer power to an elected government, as stipulated in Geneva's road map.
