16 June 2022Re: UN Human Rights Council (HRC) should support the renewal of the UN Fact-Finding Mission (FFM) mandate on Libya, as a matter of urgency, at the current 50th session of the HRC. In October 2021, the HRC renewed the FFM’s mandate for a period of nine months, until the end of June 2022. To date, the investigatory work of the FFM has proven vital in establishing facts related to violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law committed in Libya since 2016. Its renewal is imperative to continue investigating ongoing crimes and violations, to shed light on the human rights situation, and to send a strong message that the prevailing environment of impunity can no longer be tolerated. The Libyan judiciary has largely failed to bring perpetrators of human rights violations to account, including in relation to the unlawful killings in Tarhouna, while armed groups and militias have subjected prosecutors and judges to abduction, threats and other violence.

Eric Dickerson only played four-plus years with the Los Angeles Rams, but he’s unquestionably one of the best players in the franchise’s history. Looking back on his career, Dickerson wishes he could’ve stayed with the Rams for the duration of his time in the NFL. Only regret, and that’s not a regret, do I wish I could’ve stayed with the Rams my whole career? Running backs still don’t earn nearly as much as players at other positions, but Dickerson raised the salaries of his peers. Back in those days, we were the workhorses.”Though he only spent four of his 11 years with the Rams, Dickerson clearly has much closer ties to that franchise than he does the Colts.

I shouldn’t have to go into deep detail about how Kupp is in the upper echelon of wide receivers in fantasy football. But I’m a man of the people, and since I’m contractually obligated to type words on a screen, I’ll expand on why Kupp is still a fantastic option in dynasty leagues. The Los Angeles Rams recently signed Kupp to a three-year extension, keeping him with the franchise through the 2026 season. His extension makes him one of the highest-paid wideouts in the NFL — and deservedly so — as he now leads all wide receivers in total guarantees at $75 million. Following his shiny new contract extension, what is Kupp’s value in dynasty leagues entering the 2022 season?

The Libyan Prime Minister, Fathi Bashagha, called on all Libyan parties to participate in “building the state”, in a speech on the occasion of the parliament’s approval of the state’s general budget for 2022. Bashagha said: “The Libyan government invites everyone to participate in building the state, and our motto is that Libya is for everyone and by everyone. The Prime Minister warned that Libya is going through serious challenges in this period of time, and facing grave dangers that threaten the existence of the state, its integrity, its present and its future. He said, “We are together hand in hand. We have national duties that do not accept complacency, and there is no room for hesitation and retreat.”“Either we fulfill the trust that we inherited from our fathers and grandfathers, or we fall into the abyss of conflict, divide and strife,” Bashagha added.

Andrew Whitworth retired from football earlier this offseason, calling it a career after 16 seasons in the NFL. It’s sad to see the Rams’ left tackle leave his perch as the blindside blocker, but he hasn’t gone very far since retiring. He’s also remained good friends with some of their young offensive linemen, too. Whitworth’s trainer, Ryan Sorensen, shared a video on Instagram of David Edwards and Joe Noteboom working out in Whitworth’s garage – aka, “The Dojo.”Whitworth has been staying in great shape himself, raising questions about whether he might pull an Eric Weddle and return for the playoff run if the Rams come calling. It’s unlikely, especially considering the good hands their offensive line is in, even after Whitworth’s retirement.

TRIPOLI: Libya’s parliament approved a budget on Wednesday for the government it appointed in March despite the incumbent administration refusing to step down, a move that may accelerate a return to parallel rule. The 89.7 billion Libyan dinar ($18.6 billion) budget was approved unanimously, the parliament’s spokesperson said. The session was attended by 98 of 165 lawmakers. Another five voted in favour remotely, the spokesperson said. The dispute over control of government and state revenue, and over a political solution to resolve 11 years of violent chaos, threatens to launch Libya back into administrative partition and war.

The International Criminal Court on Wednesday confirmed the death of wanted war crimes suspect and Libyan militia leader Mahmoud al-Werfalli, saying it was dropping the case against him. In July 2018, the ICC issued a second arrest warrant for Werfalli for his “alleged responsibility for murder as a war crime”. The court said he “allegedly shot dead 10 persons in front of the Bi’at al-Radwan Mosque” in Benghazi on January 24 that year. Last month, Bashagha attempted to seize power in Tripoli, sparking pre-dawn clashes between armed groups supporting him and those backing Dbeibah. Two other Libyans remain wanted by the ICC — Seif al-Islam Kadhafi, a son of Kadhafi, and Al-Tuhamy Mohamed Khaled, formerly head of the internal security agency.

Photo credit: Leonid Altman / ShutterstockIn Libya and the Global Enduring Disorder (Oxford University Press, 2022), Libya expert and businessman Jason Pack argues that the era of post-Cold War American hegemony is being replaced by a system in which persistent global coordination failures perpetuate civil wars. The danger of global disorder, according to Pack, includes more than festering civil wars; even more threatening is a growing global inability to respond proactively, through global governance, to face such global threats as climate change, terrorism, and cybercrime. For Pack, this “Global Enduring Disorder” is self-reinforcing because the chaos it creates makes it more difficult for order to be restored. His ideas about the “Global Enduring Disorder” are drawn from these experiences. Despite its length, Pack’s book leaves certain questions about the “Global Enduring Disorder” unexplored.
