TRIPOLI :Libya's parliament approved a budget on Wednesday for the government it appointed in March despite the incumbent administration refusing to step down, a move that may accelerate a return to parallel rule. The 89.7 billion Libyan dinar (US$18.6 billion) budget was approved unanimously, the parliament's spokesperson said. The Central Bank of Libya (CBL), which is based in Tripoli and is the only internationally recognised depository for Libyan oil revenues, finances Dbeibah's government. Libya analysts say if the CBL refuses to fund Bashagha's budget, parliament may ask the head of its eastern branch to do so, effectively ending the CBL reunification process. The parliament is based in the east and largely supported commander Khalifa Haftar's war against Tripoli and western factions.

TRIPOLI : Libya's parliament is set to vote on Wednesday to approve a budget for the government it appointed in March despite the incumbent administration refusing to step down, a move that may accelerate a return to parallel rule. The Central Bank of Libya (CBL), which is based in Tripoli and is the only internationally recognised depository for the country's oil revenue, finances Dbeibah's government. Under previous agreements, however, it pays salaries across Libya's political divide including to fighters on different sides of the conflict. The parliament, which appointed Bashagha prime minister, is based in the east and largely supported commander Khalifa Haftar's war against Tripoli and western factions. If the CBL in Tripoli refuses to finance Bashagha's budget after the parliament approves it, the parliament may ask the head of the eastern CBL branch to provide the funding.

This is not the first time Rwanda has taken in asylum seekers from a third country. Trying to reach Europe, he got stuck in a Libyan detention facility for a year before the UN took him to Rwanda’s Gashora camp. Conditions are much better in Rwanda, Nyuon said, but he and many others migrants sent from Libya are set on getting to Europe. When I reach Europe or Canada I will study and work,” echoed Eritrean Teame Goitom. Israel attempted a similar migrant transfer program as Britain starting in 2014, sending mainly Sudanese and Eritreans asylum seekers to Rwanda and Uganda.

Libyan oil output last year was more than 1.2 million bpd and the reduced production adds to the pressure on markets already squeezed by tight supply elsewhere. The Oil Ministry spokesman said Libya was facing a daily loss in export revenue of $70 million-80 million as a result of the shutdowns. National Oil Corporation has not recently commented on oil output. READ: Libya crisis worsens as rival government takes oathGroups at oil facilities have demanded that Dbeibah quit in favour of Bashagha. It has not commented on that charge, but LNA figures urged an oil shutdown in April.

Oil futures surrendered early gains on Tuesday, brought on by supply disruptions in Libya, to finish with a loss. Prices for the front-month contract ended Tuesday at the lowest since June 6, according to Dow Jones Market Data. BRNQ22, the global benchmark, lost $1.10, or 0.9%, at $121.17 a barrel on ICE Futures Europe, the lowest finish since June 7. A revival of the deal would lead to more oil from Iran on the global market. Flynn, however, said the news was more likely to send oil prices higher.

In what seems like it will be a never-ending story, the Cleveland Browns acquisition of QB Deshaun Watson continues to be front-page news for all the wrong reasons. After two more cases were filed, the first since the team acquired him, recently and the New York Times investigation was published, the Browns and Watson have gone about business as usual. That is expected to continue with the mandatory minicamp opening today but business as usual, right now, also means more cases against Watson. According to a Houston area report, attorney Tony Buzbee will be filing two new civil cases on Tuesday against Watson bringing the total to 26 in all. For the football team and its fans, uncertainty continues to reign with, seemingly, no end in sight.

Meta has released its Horizon Worlds metaverse platform for Quest 2 users in the United Kingdom with further plans to launch in European countries in the summer, it was announced on Sunday. The platform has begun connecting users with friends and families since 2021 in immersive, interactive environments to play games, socialise, or collaborate from anywhere in the world. According to Meta, it has also outlined its Conduct in VR Policy and Horizon Worlds Prohibited Content Policy to inform metaverse users of regulations, following an incident where an executive and beta tester of the platform had been virtually assaulted, leading to an overhaul of the platform’s guidelines. Meta will restrict, suspend, or disable users found violating the terms of the platform on an individual case basis, it explained. Meta is also adding Voice Mode, allowing users greater control over their immersive experiences by controlling which people hear conversations and encrypting conversations for non-friended individuals.
