The PLA Eastern Theater Command said it had successfully completed various missions during recent drills around Taiwan and effectively tested the troops’ joint operation combat capacity, state media outlet Global Times reported. “…China has used the drills in its military playbook to prepare for the invasion of Taiwan. It is conducting large-scale military exercises and missile launches, as well as cyberattacks, disinformation, and economic coercion, in an attempt to weaken public morale in Taiwan,” he said. Justifying its large-scale military drills and airspace violations in the East and South China sea, China on Tuesday said that after Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, the country is now preparing itself for every possible scenario.

7 new people test positive for Coronavirus in Libya
7 new people tested positive for COVID-19, marking 32 percent of the infection rate, according to a Wednesday report by the National Center for Disease Control in Libya (NCDC). The center also said one person died and 203 have recovered during the same reporting period. The total recorded COVID-19 cases in Libya have exceeded more than 50,000 since the start of the pandemic, while over 490,000 of which have recovered, according to the NCDC. The virus has claimed the lives of 6,434 people. Over two million people received one dose of the vaccination, while more than one million others were vaccinated with two doses.

President of the Tripoli-based High Council of State (HCS), Khaled al-Mishri, has discussed with the UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peace-building Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, the political developments in Libya. This came during a phone call he received on Tuesday, said HCS Information Office on Wednesday. Al-Mishri explained HCS’ position on the country’s political crisis and its vision to get out of it by organizing elections on sound constitutional and legal bases that would renew the country’s political legitimacy and end the transitional periods.

For years, Lotfi has been briefing authorities on the movements of looted and smuggled artifacts. Georges Lotfi, 81, is a former pharmaceutical businessman residing in Tripoli (Northern Lebanon). He has been an avid collector and an active dealer of Roman mosaics for decades.

Attorney General to investigates bakery use of banned potassium bromate in bread
Potassium bromate had initially been banned by Libya in 2005. The Attorney General’s announcement comes on the back of claims that samples of bread taken from bakeries across Libya were found to contain the food additive, potassium bromate. Potassium bromate is banned as an additive in bread in the UK and Europe. Flour mills under the microscopeThe claims of the use of potassium bromate then extended to Libya’s four mills. The Ministry reported that the attendees of the meeting denied social media claims that flour mills are adding potassium bromate to their flour.

Egypt affirms support for Libyan democracy, sovereignty
CAIRO: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has affirmed his country’s support for efforts to reconcile Libya’s opposing groups and the holding of presidential and parliamentary elections. El-Sisi’s assurances came during a meeting on Wednesday in Cairo with the president of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi. Al-Menfi’s visit comes a day after El-Sisi held talks with Khalifa Haftar, field marshal and commander-in-chief of the Libyan army, and Aqila Saleh, speaker of parliament. Cairo has been attempting to mediate between the two men, to prevent further conflict from erupting. The UN has faced several challenges in bringing together opposing groups in Libya that would ensure the holding of free and fair elections.

Police in New Mexico arrest suspect in string of killings of Muslim men, Albuquerque chief says

EgyptAir resumes flights to Libya's Mitiga airport after 8-year hiatus
CAIRO – 9 August 2022: The Libyan News Agency reported Tuesday the arrival of the first EgyptAir flight to Mitiga airport, located in the capital Tripoli, after an eight-year hiatus. EgyptAir had declared Sunday the operation of temporary flights between Sharm El Sheikh International Airport and Mitiga airport until October 11 in order to transport Libyan tourist groups to and from the Egyptian resort town. On his side, President and CEO of GHS Aviation Group George Snyder valued the cooperation with EgyptAir, which began five years ago, and commended the company for implementing all previous recommendations. Snyder further noted that GHS' endorsement of EgyptAir's safety would bolster the confidence of insurance company in cooperating with the airline. EgyptAir celebrates on May 7 of every year with passengers by offering souvenirs, discounts, and launching an advertising campaign relevant to the event.

SoFi Opens Web3 ETF for Crypto, Blockchain
SoFi Technologies, a major provider of online personal financing services, announced it had launched a Web3-based exchange-traded fund (ETF) for cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and other emerging technology investments, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday. 116 migrants disembarked back on Libyan shores in a week – IOM
116 migrants have been disembarked back on Libyan shores in the period from 31 July to August 6, 2022, according to International Organization for Migration. So far in 2022, 12,063 migrants have been disembarked on Libyan shores, IOM said on Tuesday. It added that 195 migrants died and 710 went missing in the period from 1 Jan to 6 August, 2022 on the Central Mediterranean route. in 2021, 32,425 migrants were disembarked on Libyan shores, while 662 died and 891 went missing, the Organization added.
