Attorney General to investigates bakery use of banned potassium bromate in bread


Potassium bromate had initially been banned by Libya in 2005. The Attorney General’s announcement comes on the back of claims that samples of bread taken from bakeries across Libya were found to contain the food additive, potassium bromate. Potassium bromate is banned as an additive in bread in the UK and Europe. Flour mills under the microscopeThe claims of the use of potassium bromate then extended to Libya’s four mills. The Ministry reported that the attendees of the meeting denied social media claims that flour mills are adding potassium bromate to their flour.
