February 17, 2024 05:44 am | Updated 10:26 am IST - NEW DELHI:Myanmar’s plans for conscription has triggered fear that it may create a new wave of exodus of young Myanmar nationals leaving for neighbouring countries in South and Southeast Asia. Myanmar has flown air sorties to retrieve its soldiers from Mizoram however such sorties are increasingly becoming difficult for the junta as it faces constraints. The foreign minister of Bangladesh Hasan Mahmud who visited India last week said that Myanmar is in talks for taking back its soldiers by sea route. Rebels indicated that the junta’s announcement of conscription for men and women citizens of Myanmar have heightened tension in the country especially as the junta’s recent reverses included loss of several townships near Indian and Bangladesh borders. Myanmar’s internal strifes have been a major reason for dislocation of communities beginning with the exodus of the Rohingya community from Rakhine province that took refuge in Bangladesh’s Chittagong in September 2017.

Meta, Zuckerberg's company, went through a major staff cut, and they're also getting rid of some management layers to be more efficient. For instance, Instagram is cutting technical program manager roles, and this is happening in other parts of Meta too. Many are exploring ways to restructure, streamline management levels, and shift towards a more efficient model. However, according to Zuckerberg, AI isn't the primary factor in these changes. It began with excessive hiring and transformed into a dedication to excel by functioning as a more streamlined company."

The National Company Law Tribunal had on February 13 granted a second extension for Go First’s corporate insolvency resolution process -- giving it another 60 days until April 4. It added that the airline operator’s role as the “operating partner” for the revived carrier would involve providing essential staff, services, and industry expertise. SpiceJet had only recently announced cost-cutting measures to save up to ₹100 crore, including plans to lay off up to 1,400 staff members. This week brought good news- 7 of 8 released Indians, former naval personnel returned to their families, as the Amir of Qatar decided to free the men. And I saw [Indian Ambassador Vipul] standing in front of me. Even my wife who had been in Qatar throughout this ordeal had no clue this was going to happen. The Ambassador gave us a lot of confidence, and most importantly they opened their doors for the families and said come and speak to us anytime, chat on the phone, send messages. In particular Ambassador Vipul, and before him Ambassador Mittal (Previous ambassador to Qatar) and their team’s attitude was amazing.

The views expressed are his own)The recent verdict of the Indian Supreme Court invalidating the electoral bond scheme is being widely hailed as a great victory for Indian democracy. Far from reducing corruption, I submit this verdict will not even create a dent on this widespread phenomenon in India and Indian politics. Businessmen and corporates are smart people, and will surely find out some other way to make donations to political parties while remaining anonymous. Obviously from businessmen/corporates, for whom it is an investment for a quid pro quo ( if the candidate wins ). I regret pouring cold water on all this revelry, merrymaking, festivity, braggadocio and jollification over this verdict, but I suppose it is left to me to bell the cat.

Hindu nationalists pin their partisan acts favouring the majority community on the ‘decolonisation of ideas and culture’ hook. Sinha states in his article that the Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi has the potential to redefine multiculturalism. The BJP CM of UP Yogi Adityanath asked the Muslim community to surrender the Gyanvapi Mosque in Varanasi and Idgah Mosque in Mathura to the Hindu community. The colonisation referred to by the Hindu nationalists did not begin with the British imperialism. The pre-2014 history, according to the Hindu nationalists, was history of ongoing war between the two communities.
