The process in the Iranian constitution after Supreme leader's death Under Iran’s constitution, the country’s next supreme leader is selected by the Assembly of Experts, an 88-member body of senior clerics elected every eight years in a nationwide vote. In the 2024 elections, allies of the supreme leader secured all 88 seats, as per BBC. Article 111 of the constitution stipulates that, until a new leader is chosen, a temporary three-member council will carry out the supreme leader’s responsibilities. If no contender secures a two-thirds majority, the interim three-member council could, in principle, remain in charge for an extended period. After Khomeini returned to Iran in February 1979 and declared the Islamic Republic, Khamenei was appointed to the influential Revolutionary Council.

In the past three months, nine penny stocks have witnessed steep declines of 50% to 65%. The approach aims to spotlight low-priced yet actively traded penny stocks that have suffered significant downside. (Data source: ACE Equity)While penny stocks often lure investors with their low entry cost and potential for sharp gains, they carry considerable risk. Limited liquidity, high volatility and lower levels of transparency make them vulnerable to price manipulation and sudden corrections. Without a disciplined strategy and robust risk management, investors may end up incurring substantial losses.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday (February 28, 2026) that Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was dead, after Israel and the United States launched an attack of unprecedented scale aimed at bringing down the Islamic republic. Cheers could be heard on Tehran's streets after reports of the death of Mr. Khamenei, Iran's paramount leader since 1989, as plumes of black smoke hovered over the Pasteur district where he usually resides, witnesses told AFP. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier said there were "many signs that this tyrant is no longer alive". Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had earlier told NBC News that Mr. Khamenei was alive "as far as I know", adding that "all high-ranking officials are alive".

Less than 40 hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Israel, India was confronted with a familiar but challenging diplomatic test. After speaking with Israel Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar in the afternoon, he said he reiterated “India’s call for dialogue and diplomacy to de-escalate tensions”. The attack came when Iran was engaged in negotiations and Oman had indicated that a deal was within reach. Then, too, Delhi had called for “no alternative to dialogue and diplomacy to address and resolve the multiple conflicts in the region”. In both theatres, India’s approach hinges on strategic autonomy: avoiding public censure, preserving relationships across divides, and insulating core interests.
