Billing issue: Google delists apps of 10 Indian firms from Play Store
Google has commenced taking down from the Play Store the apps of the ten Indian companies, including prominent matrimony and dating apps in the country, that remained non-compliant with the tech giant’s app billing policy for an extended period of time. It also comes three weeks after the Supreme Court refused to grant any interim protection to domestic start-ups against the removal of the apps from the Play Store by Google. The ten domestic companies whose apps have been taken down include Shaadi.com, QuackQuack, Stage, InfoEdge-owned portals naukri.com, and 99acres.com. Google highlighted that there are over 2 lakh Indian developers using Google Play, and these developers adhere to the tech giant’s policies. Sanjeev Bikhchandani, founder and executive vice chairman of InfoEdge, said that Indian companies will comply—for now.

Electronics exports from Tamil Nadu touch $7.37 billion
Tamil Nadu has continued to consolidate its position as India’s leading exporter of electronic goods, with its value touching $7.37 billion — a 32.52 per cent of India’s total export of Global Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) goods of $22.65 billion for the period April 2023 to January 2024. It is significant to note that compared to the export of electronic goods for the previous financial year (2022-2023), which was $5.37 billion, Tamil Nadu has already exported electronic goods worth $7.37 billion in 10 months of the current financial year. The State’s export of electronic goods is expected to reach the $9 billion mark by the end of this Financial Year (2023-2024), says a release.

India defence startups: Newspace raises $52 mn, the largest equity raise for an Indian defence startup
In possibly the largest equity raise by an Indian startup in the defence and aerospace sector, cutting-edge drone manufacturer Newspace Research & Technologies (NRT) has secured $52 million in a bridge round. In February 2022, ET had reported that the startup raised $21 million in its first round and aims to become a unicorn within five years. The company is currently in the process of delivering a tethered system to the Indian Army as well. It is a stated aim of the government to promote the rise of unicorns in the defence and aerospace sector. In the interim budget, the government announced a special scheme for deep tech in the defence sector.
