Tangedco to import 6.5L MT coal from Malaysia to tackle summer
CHENNAI: In a bid to meet the summer demand, Tangedco is planning to import 6.5 lakh metric tonnes of coal from Malaysia in March and April. The power utility is likely to receive 1.40 lakh MT of coal in the first week of March. “Presently, the corporation is sourcing coal from the Mahanadi coal fields in Odisha and Singareni mines in Telangana,” he said. In response to the escalating demand for coal, the Centre allowed a 6% coal import for all distribution companies. In the recent years, Tangedco has consistently been turning to Malaysia for its coal imports.

"It is very important that there is this meeting, this meeting between men and women, because today the worst danger is gender ideology," the 87-year-old told a meeting with participants of an international conference on marriage and faith. "I asked for studies into this ugly ideology of our time, which erases differences and makes everything the same. Erasing differences is erasing humanity." The Argentine pontiff has repeatedly railed against gender theory, also called gender ideology, which broadly speaking is the idea that you do not have to adhere to the gender you were born with, and that gender is a product of societal norms, rather than purely biology.

India ranks 112th on progress towards UN-mandated Sustainable Development Goals in 2023
India ranks 112th among 166 countries, only above Pakistan and Afghanistan in South Asia, based on its performance in 2023 towards achieving the UN-mandated Sustainable Development Goals, a report released on Wednesday says. The State of India’s Environment 2024 report, published by the think tank Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), is based on the United Nations-backed Sustainable Development Report 2023, where the rankings appear. India has done poorly on “sustainable cities”, “equality”, “clean water and sanitation” and “peace, justice and strong institutions”. The UN adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — 17 in all — in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty and protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 everyone enjoys peace and prosperity. India’s score of 63.45 per cent in 2023 marks a small improvement over the previous year’s 60.3 per cent.
