After weeks of intensifying pressure, Joe Biden, the president of the United States of America, conceded to demands from within his own party to drop out of the November 2024 presidential election in which he was seeking a second term. Mr Biden’s decision is unprecedented: never before has a sitting president eligible for re-election quit so far down the nomination process. The last time an incumbent opted out of the race for a second term in the US was Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968. Mr Trump, 78, is now the oldest presidential candidate ever, while Ms Harris, 59, is amassing a rapid following on TikTok and other youth-friendly social media platforms. Meanwhile, many Republicans have questioned Mr Biden’s fitness to complete the rest of his term, with some suggesting he should quit office.

Donald Trump launched a volley of attacks against US Vice President Kamala Harris Wednesday, calling her a "radical left lunatic" in his first rally since she became the de facto Democratic Party nominee for November's election. In a speech where he also claimed that Harris was in favour of the "execution" of babies due to her position on abortions, the former president and Republican nominee said: "She is a radical left lunatic who will destroy our country." "We're not going to let that happen," he told a crowd in North Carolina, repeatedly mispronouncing Harris's first name. Trump's address comes as Harris, 59, hits the campaign trail armed with President Joe Biden's endorsement -- after his historic decision over the weekend not to seek reelection. The 78-year-old Republican had been attacking Biden over his age, but is now being forced to pivot as he has become the oldest nominee in US history.

“What they are going to pay at 12.5% is less than even what they have paid if the indexation were to be there. Because Rs 1,00,000, Rs 5,00,000, Rs 10,00,000, Rs 15,00,000 – that exemption will benefit even the higher income groups.First of all, we intend to give something to the middle-class salaried people. Is the GST tax on the essentials, brought in only by GST? They should come to the NITI Aayog and say, look, my state is getting this much. I will still have money going to states that have not been named in my budget.
