LONDON (Reuters) – Investment bank JPMorgan slashed its price target for China’s debt-hobbled property giant Evergrande Group to HK$2.80 from HK$7.20 on Friday, saying there was likely to be more negative news about its finances. The bank also cut its recommendation to underweight from overweight. “We believe the company will continue to see negative news flows on its liquidity risk (refinancing / lawsuits from suppliers / potential bond defaults),” JPMorgan said. “While we think Evergrande will likely see a soft landing scenario, we think rerating will be unlikely in near future, until we have better clarity of an actual resolution.”Evergrande, which has around $20 billion worth of international bonds, has seen its share price slump 85% over the last year and rating agencies have issued a flurry of warnings over the last couple of weeks that it could default. Those terrorist attacks were the catalyst for many in our country to respond in genuinely thoughtful and productive ways. Over the two decades that followed, many learned about Islam and the Middle East, and reached out to neighbors with whom they had not previously connected. How had I missed the not-so-subtle undertones of neo-nationalism that permeated our national conversation long before September 12, 2001? “Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.” But two decades later, have we learned anything? May we never again allow fear and anger to supersede those values even on the scariest, bleakest of days.

MetroWest Daily NewsIn the midst of an ongoing pandemic, evicting people from their homes is not only unconscionable but a threat to public health. At the same time, we also need to go beyond protecting residents from eviction in the short-term, and drastically increase our investments in affordable housing to address Massachusetts' long-existing housing crisis. Reforming zoning codes and building multi-family housing across the Commonwealth can help address our housing supply shortage. As business leaders, we know that creating more affordable housing is critical for a thriving workforce and economy. Jennifer Benson is President of the Alliance for Business Leadership and a former Massachusetts State Representative.

Teaching needs to create relationships and understandings between all peoples. To accomplish this, all centers of learning, including the family, need to be teaching and exemplifying civil dialogue. The components of civil dialogue are identifiable, teachable, can be practiced and be evaluated. Our schools would be performing a lasting service to our country to start teaching civil dialogue. The materials and resources for teaching civil dialogue are currently available.

BOSTON (Reuters) -Harvard University is ending its investments in fossil fuels, the school’s president said on Thursday, drawing praise from divestment activists who had long pressed the leading university to exit such holdings. The indirect investments, made through private equity funds, make up less than 2% of the endowment, Bacow wrote. Recently valued at about $42 billion, the most of any university, the school’s endowment has been under pressure for years from students, alumni and other activists to sell off its fossil fuel holdings as a way to slow climate change. For most of the past decade previous Harvard officials had resisted calls to sell fossil fuel stocks but more recently changed course under new leaders including Bacow, president since 2018. Internal pressure for divestment has also grown, including from young members elected to one of Harvard’s leadership boards last year on a divestment platform.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Climate-related weather events are costing American households, businesses and insurers billions of dollars in losses, and there is no sign that they will ease up, the U.S. Treasury’s top climate official told Reuters on Thursday. Climate counselor John Morton said Treasury’s Federal Insurance Office (FIO) https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2021/08/31/2021-18713/federal-insurance-office-request-for-information-on-the-insurance-sector-and-climate-related was seeking public input to better understand and assess the insurance-related risks posed by climate-related weather events such Hurricane Ida. “Just last year, climate-related weather events resulted in nearly $120 billion in losses, and … close to $50 billion of that were uninsured losses,” Morton said in an interview. “We’re seeing not only the insurance sector take an increasingly severe and regular hit, but we’re seeing American households, American small businesses be affected at significant levels,” he said. “The question is, how do we … better understand and begin to price the risk inherent in the underlying activities,” he said.

A gay Missouri teacher who says district officials reprimanded him for pushing a “personal agenda on sexuality” for putting up an LGBTQ Pride flag in his classroom has resigned. John M. Wallis, a former speech and theater teacher at Neosho Junior High School in Southwest Missouri, said he resigned last week following a series of complaints from parents and demands from the school district. “In fact, the use of the pride flag in my classroom was compared to hanging the Confederate flag in my classroom.”He took down the flag and the sign, but doing so prompted students to ask why. “Your position in the Neosho School District is to teach speech and drama classes. Wallis told the News-Leader that he has since filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, alleging discrimination.
