At present, even though foreign institutional investors are allowed to hold up to 74% of private insurance companies and up to 20% of state-owned banks, they are not permitted to own shares in LIC. Enabling this would allow foreign pension funds, insurance companies and mutual funds to participate in the IPO of India’s largest life insurer. For instance, food delivery startup Zomato paid $31 million in fees for listing earlier this year, according to Dealogic. The low fee, however, has not been a deterrent, with nearly all the major banks barring Morgan Stanley queuing up. It is the biggest IPO in recent times and will be probably the biggest, say for another 5 years,” said a merchant banker.

NEW YORK (Reuters) -Oil prices jumped on Wednesday and settled up more than 1% as U.S. Gulf of Mexico producers made slow progress in restoring output after Hurricane Ida. Brent settled up 91 cents, or 1.3%, at $72.60 and U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude settled up 95 cents, or 1.4%, to $69.30 a barrel. About 77% of U.S. Gulf production remained offline on Tuesday, or about 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd). About 17.5 million barrels of oil have been lost to the market so far. “It’s possible the loss of refining demand and the amount of crude oil might somewhat cancel itself out,” said Bob Yawger, director of energy futures at Mizuho.

China has issued a ban on “sissy” men appearing in any media in the country as part of a crackdown on “abnormal esthetics.”The country’s National Radio and Television Administration is seeking to limit depictions of “sissy idols” and “effeminate men,” Variety reports. The new edict, sent to China’s broadcasters, is part of the Communist Party of China’s (CCP) efforts to limit celebrity culture and its resulting influence on the country’s younger generations. The broadcast ban used a derogatory term for effeminate men — “niang pao,” which translates to “girlie guns” — and stated that broadcasters should “resolutely put an end to sissy men and other abnormal esthetics.”Homosexuality isn’t illegal in China, but neither is it widely accepted. China’s censors regularly edit or ban LGBTQ content, including cutting depictions of Freddie Mercury’s gay relationships in 2018 biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. But on Aug. 25, guidance was revised to allow for quarantined students to participate in schooling remotely if their schools are able to "allow students to join their schedule remotely."
