WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Toyota Motor Corp and Honda Motor Co on Saturday sharply criticized a proposal by Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives to give union-made electric vehicles in the United States an additional $4,500 tax incentive. In a statement, Honda called the bill “unfair” and said it “discriminates among EVs made by hard-working American auto workers based simply on whether they belong to a union. The proposal is a key part of Democratic President Joe Biden’s goal to ensure EVs comprise at least 50% of U.S. vehicle sales by 2030 and boost American union jobs. The bill, however, does away with phasing out automakers’ tax credits after they hit 200,000 electric vehicles sold, which would make General Motors Co and Tesla Inc eligible again. GM, Ford Motor Co and Stellantis NV, the parent of Chrysler, assemble their U.S.-made vehicles in plants represented by the United Auto Workers (UAW) union.

I could not have imagined the developing horror until I turned on the bulky device jammed into the entertainment center. My parents, still living on Bacon Street in Natick, had a trip to France planned for Sept. 12. That summer was my second year as a full-time sports writer, for the Bennington Banner in southwest Vermont. Upon completion of post-game interviews, the usual routine consists of dashing the seven miles back to the office to meet deadline. A woman with a piece of cardboard was in the middle of traffic, exhorting drivers that were paused at the traffic light.

BELGRADE (Reuters) – The challenges Novak Djokovic faced in his childhood and throughout his career helped the 34-year-old Serb in his bid to become the greatest tennis player of all time, his former mentor Niki Pilic told Reuters. “You can’t tell someone’s limits when they are just teenagers but doing things the hard way has definitely made Djokovic tougher,” Pilic told Reuters in a telephone interview shortly before the Serb’s win over Zverev. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tennis-djokovic-interview-idUSKBN0LX1Q120150301For all his accomplishments on court, Djokovic has never enjoyed the same global popularity among tennis fans as Federer and Nadal. “Djokovic is not everyone’s cup of tea because he comes from a small country and is hence not appreciated enough by droves of Anglo-American and European tennis fans,” Pilic said. I’m going to treat the next match like it is the last match of my career,” he said.

HOPKINTON — Away from the football field, the Bolivar and Goodfellow twins will argue. That’s where the two sets of twins from the Wayland High football team find equal footing. On Friday night, Charlie and his twin brother, Ben, suited up alongside twins Adam and Sean Goodfellow in a season-opening game against Hopkinton. “Their minds are in sync,” Wayland High senior Will Ruland said. For the Bolivar bunch, there’s a red brick near the Wayland football field that has the graduation date of 12 different Bolivars who earned a high school diploma from Wayland High.

That meant Chiasson, a sophomore, stepped in for his first varsity start in front of a packed house at Needham’s Memorial Field. Interestingly enough, Lederman, now a freshman at Bentley University after a standout career at Natick, also started his first varsity game at Needham. This was the third straight shutout for Natick against Needham, with the previous two meetings being 35-0 and 42-0. Following the second Redhawk interception by Henry O’Connor, Natick started with the ball on the Needham 24. Natick also pinned Needham deep in its own zone often, as the Rockets had nine possessions which began on or inside their 25.

The S&P 500 energy sector is down 12.3% for the quarter-to-date compared with a 3.7% gain for the S&P 500, which stands near record highs. Those worries have weighed on energy stocks, with companies like Exxon Mobil Corp and Chevron Corp down more than 13% for the quarter-to-date. Some investors, however, remain bullish on energy out of expectations that eventual declines in coronavirus case counts will buoy economic growth. The declines have also made some energy stocks much cheaper relative to their values earlier in the year. The sector also faces the prospect of tougher emission standards from the Biden administration and rising demand for electric vehicles, he added.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – The dollar rose on Friday in line with higher U.S. Treasury yields as investors focused on when the Federal Reserve is likely to begin reducing its asset purchases. The greenback has risen from a one-month low reached last Friday after jobs data for August showed that jobs growth slowed, while wage inflation rose more than expected. Fed officials are grappling with rising price pressures while jobs growth remains below their targets. The Wall Street Journal on Friday wrote that Fed officials will seek to make an agreement at the Fed’s September meeting to begin paring bond purchases in November. The euro fell 0.07% to $1.1816 on Friday, a day after the European Central Bank said it will trim emergency bond purchases over the coming quarter.
