Security forces are searching for two Kuwaitis who were kidnapped while on a hunting trip in a desert area in Iraq, two security officials said on Monday. A police colonel confirmed the kidnapping took place on Sunday in a desert area between Anbar and Salahuddin provinces. However, an Iraqi foreign ministry statement referred only to one Kuwaiti national. It said Iraq's Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein told his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah the Iraqi government would "determine the fate of the Kuwaiti national". A federal district court judge denied an appeal to reconsider the detention of a former student accused of posting antisemitic threats on Tuesday, Dec. 19. The court concluded that Dai presents a risk of “non-appearance” and a “danger to any other person and the community” and can not be released. “The Court finds that no condition or combination of conditions can reasonably mitigate these risks,” Sannes wrote in the 20-page opinion. Dai, who was an engineering student, was first detained by the FBI on Oct. 31, following violent antisemitic threats he posted on the website Greekrank. He has been held at the Broome County penitentiary since and will remain there until his next hearing, which is yet to be scheduled.

But the governor glossed over a key detail: His spending plan doesn’t actually provide Colorado’s colleges and universities enough money to do so. The governor’s plan calls for colleges to pass on $80 million of those costs to out-of-state students through a 6.5% tuition hike. Out-of-state students already pay much higher tuition than Colorado residents. Overall, 34% of higher education funding now comes from out-of-state students, while in-state students provide 37%. For the state’s largest universities, out-of-state tuition now provides more funding than in-state students or Colorado taxpayers.

This month, two now-former Colorado state representatives have shown how. Former state Rep. Ruby Dickson, D-Greenwood Village, was the first to resign. The decision to leave was never going to be easy, and Dickson and Sharbini, D-Adams County, are likely well aware of the impacts of their decisions. Hopefully Dickson and Sharbini will help their replacements to get started quickly. Some traditional, more seasoned politicos have suggested Dickson and Sharbini were weak, that their jaws were too soft, or their tongues too dry.
