Lawyers and students from private universities began the protest on the Supreme Court premises at 11am on Wednesday. Anti-discrimination Student Movement activists led by conveners Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah marched into the High Court premises around 12:30pm. The days are connected to the Awami League, including the anniversary of Bangabandhu’s assassination and his historic Mar 7 speechThe interim government has scrapped eight national days commemorated by Bangladesh, including National Mourning Day on Aug 15 and the celebration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s speech on Mar 7. Asked about the post, Abul Kalam Azad Majumder, deputy press secretary to the chief advisor, said: “The advisors’ cabinet recently made the decision to cancel those eight national days. The Cabinet Division will soon issue a notice scrapping those eight national days.”Five of these cancelled days are connected to the births and deaths of Sheikh Hasina’s family. The three others cancelled are the commemoration of Bangabandhu’s historic Mar 7 speech, National Constitution Day on Nov 4, and Smart Bangladesh Day on Dec 12. Ashlen Zitel of Beatrice was in Gage County Court on Tuesday to decide if there would be a preliminary hearing for her on suspicion of two child abuse charges and to have two more charges added. Zitel, who turns 28 this week, was arrested Sept. 7 along with Austin Meyn of Beatrice in connection with the death of a 4-month-old in August. Zitel faces a felony charge of negligent child abuse that causes death and a misdemeanor charge of negligent child abuse in that case. During Tuesday's court appearance, a second case was brought against her alleging sexual assault of a minor child, a Class 1 felony, and intentional child abuse, a Class 3 felony. Meyn, the other person arrested in the death of the 4-month-old, recently had his case bound over to Gage County District Court, where he will face a charge of committing intentional child abuse resulting in death.

Former director general of the postal directorate Sudhangshu Shekhar Bhadra has been arrested on charges of corruption. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested Bhadra on Tuesday night, reports bdnews24.com. Bhadra was taken into custody on Tuesday and preparations were underway to present him in court, said ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Akhtarul Islam. Bhadra faces charges of violating Section 23 of the Public Finance and Budget Management Act, 2009. Bhadra was sent into forced retirement in 2020 following allegations of corruption and breaches of discipline.

The government has decided to reduce the import duty on eggs as part of efforts to stabilise prices. He added that the import duty on eggs has been reduced from 33 percent to 13 percent, effectively affording a 20 percent waiver. The deputy press secretary said a meeting was held at the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection with egg suppliers and wholesalers. "It was decided in the meeting that wholesalers will purchase eggs directly from farmers to help reduce prices and bring them down to a more affordable level," he said. Despite a 33 percent import duty, the total import price has reached around Tk 7 per egg.
