Hilsa fish exports to India have ended as the fishing window closed ahead of the start of the breeding season. The start of Durga Puja marked a halt in imports in India's West Bengal, leaving only a limited number of days available for hilsa exports. Although the port on the other side was closed due to the festival, we continued hilsa exports under special arrangements. This year, exports continued until 8pm on the last permissible day, sending 533 tonnes of hilsa to India." Bangladesh has periodically allowed hilsa exports to meet the demands of Bengali consumers in India's West Bengal, despite ceasing regular exports in 2012 due to domestic needs and declining fish stocks.

As of this writing, it appears the Tahoe Conservancy is about to acquire Motel Six, a happy ending for a motel that used to charge six dollars. I happened to have enjoyed a summer there myself some sixty-three summers ago. Yes, in that heavenly summer of ’61, Motel Six was the Sands, and they hired a 17-year-old lifeguard to work their pool for the summer, yours truly. I didn’t have to save any lives that summer, so life was good, though I did have one code brown to deal with. That code brown was the only blemish in an otherwise perfect summer of ’61.

COB, or Continuous Open Bidding, refers to the Panhellenic Sororities’ informal recruitment process. “[It’s an] informal recruitment process that many sororities use to fill available spots outside of the primary recruitment period,” she told the Sun. In spring first-year students are also allowed to participate after formal recruitment (FMR) ends. Only five out of the eleven Panhellenic Sororities held informal recruitment this semester (Alpha Epsilon Phi, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Delta Delta, and Pi Beta Phi). Informal recruitment is an opportunity to let sororities get to know you authentically, without the pomp and frill of formal recruitment.

REUTERSIndian twenty rupee currency notes are displayed at a roadside currency exchange stall in New Delhi, India, May 24, 2024. REUTERSThe Indian rupee fell below 84 per dollar for the first time on Friday, pressured by concerns about the recent spike in oil prices and the exodus of foreign money from the equity market. The decline past the 84 level is significant as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had defended that level for more than two months. India's shrinking balance of payments surplus amid a rise in merchandise trade deficit has also kept the rupee under pressure. A pickup in gold imports alongside a slowdown in exports drove India's merchandise trade deficit to a 10-month high in August.

LONDON — The NFL's aggressive international growth plan could include holding a Super Bowl outside the United States for the first time, Commissioner Roger Goodell said Saturday. Goodell has shot down the idea in the past, but he told a fan forum in London that it's a possibility. Interim coach Jeff Ulbrich said earlier in the week Rodgers also had an issue with a hamstring. Gillan was hurt in practice Friday and ruled out on Saturday, meaning the Giants (2-3) had to sign a punter. New York also elevated wide receiver Isaiah Hodgins and running back Dante Miller from the practice squad for Sunday game.

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has expressed his desire for a country where the army, police, and RAB can also take time off during festivals like Durga Puja, rather than being deployed for security. Following the ouster of the Awami League government on Aug 5, several measures have been taken by the caretaker administration amid numerous concerns about this year's Durga Puja celebrations. The chief advisor said, “We are celebrating Durga Puja with the help of the military, police, and RAB. However, we must work towards creating a state where they too can enjoy holidays, where we can all celebrate together.”“We should not have to rely on the sacrifice of their holidays for us to enjoy ours. Yunus concluded, "We will build such a state—a dream state—where people can take pride in their country before the world.”

The advisor says action will be taken if court summons the former prime ministerEven if India grants a travel pass to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, it will not deteriorate the bilateral relationship between the two countries, says Foreign Advisor Touhid Hossain. “However, if she [Sheikh Hasina] is summoned by a court regarding any case, the foreign ministry will take necessary actions,” he added. Hasina fled to India on Aug 5 after stepping down as prime minister in the face of massive public protests and political upheaval. Recent reports suggest that Hasina has taken refuge in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, after leaving India. “If they wish to return to the country, travel passes can theoretically be issued, allowing them to travel one way back to Bangladesh,” said Touhid.
