JOS, Nigeria, Dec 25, 2023 (BSS/AFP) - Sixteen people have been killed in an attack in northcentral Nigeria, where clashes between herders and farmers are common, the army said Sunday. The attack occurred around midnight Saturday in the village of Mushu in the Plateau State, Captain Oya James told AFP. People hid, but the assailants captured many of us, some were killed, others wounded," he told AFP. It was not immediately clear what sparked the latest attack and who was responsible. State Governor Caleb Mutfwang condemned the latest attack as "barbaric, brutal and uncalled for" and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice, his spokesman, Gyang Bere, told reporters.

(Hugh Carey, The Colorado Sun)A retail store is also on-site where customers can buy beef, pork, lamb and other meats offered by the ranches. But other grower-owned processors and retailers that allow ranchers to cut out the middleman in Colorado are few and far between. Colorado is home to 13,000 beef cattle producers and 206 feedlots, all of which are served by 24 USDA certified slaughter plants, according to the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association. The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, along with other agriculture groups, has fought against claims that beef producers are a detriment to the environment, noting that beef producers in the United States are already the global leader in sustainable beef production.

It is haunting, as is the rampant antisemitism and Islamophobia the Middle East conflict has exacerbated in America’s not-so-united states. I could go on listing frustrations: The lives of gay and transgender children and parents upended by homophobic grown-ups elected to public office. Ron DeSantis’ draconian new laws, designed to fuel the fascist platform of an ambitious presidential run and party off-the-rails. “I’ve lived a good life and will survive the times. My unsolicited advice for New Year 2024: Open the window and see — with eyes and heart — how beautiful this world could be ... if only.

A proportional representation system can break the regular deadlock of boycotts and calls for a caretaker government that Bangladesh sees in the run-up to elections, says Prof Tofail Ahmed. A video of the interview is available on bdnews24.com’s Facebook and YouTube pages. “If you change the system to PR, proportional representation, then the type of majority the BNP had - by getting less than one percent majority compared to the Awami League – would not happen. They ruled, but it would not have happened [under proportional representation]. They would have got 93-96 seats if it is proportional because in the proportional system every vote counts.”
