K-Research: Recovery to come in a U-shapeTo repair the economy, the government should balance between stimulus measures and economic cost. The fiscal budget, which represents about 4.5% of GDP, will help support Thailand’s recovery after the pandemic derailed economic momentum, said Nattaporn Triratanasirikul, assistant managing director of K-Research. To repair the economy, the government should balance between stimulus measures and economic cost especially the higher public debt ratio, Ms Nattaporn said. A positive factor that would support economic recovery is vaccine development, which remains in progress, Ms Nattaporn said. In Thailand, the vaccine for the coronavirus is expected to be implemented widely around late 2021 to early 2022, in line with the economic recovery momentum for the next two years, according to K-Research.

DON DON DONKIDonDonDonki.comThere's no shortage of Japanese restos or Japanese products in the city. TREASURE FACTORYfb.com/TreFac.ThailandThrift stores aren't too common in Bangkok but Japanese second-hand store Treasure Factory seems set to change that. Since then, Headache Stencil received much more public attention and caught the authorities' eye. CHICKEN SOLDIERThe name Headache Stencil was created in 2014 when the artist participated in the world's largest competition for stencil art at "Stencil Art Prize" in Australia. His artwork Chicken Soldier entered the final round and he flew to Australia to experience the international street artist lifestyle there. I use the name Headache Stencil because I intend to give a headache to people who are the subject of my artwork. Due to his interest in political issues, as a street artist, he believes every artist has the right to creative freedom.

'Boss': New charges threatEvery expert who has calculated the speed Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya was driving at in the deadly hit-and-run case believes he was speeding, a police panel said on Thursday. He originally faced three charges but delayed answering those charges for so long that the statute of limitations on two of them expired. Four car speed experts, including those previously asked to participate in the investigation, were asked to again estimate how fast he had been driving. Another part of the report deals with alleged misconduct committed in the investigation so far by 22 police officers. The panel has therefore requested that a probe be launched against these officers to determine whether disciplinary action was necessary.

(Photo by Wichan Charoenkiatpakul)Long-term foreign residents and foreigners with permanent residences in Thailand stranded overseas will receive priority when seeking to return to Thailand, under strict disease control measures. Upon arrival, they will still be subject to a 14-day-quarantine, and about 100 of them are ready to return to Thailand and willing to follow the disease control measures. However, the CCSA will be careful in allowing those returning from countries with high infections back into the country, the CCSA said. Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Thursday assured the screening system for returnees is efficient. However, he has raised concern about migrant workers from neighbouring countries who have entered Thailand illegally without going through disease control procedures.

She began extracting the fibre found in the stems to make "lotus silk", an exclusive fabric highly sought by fashion designers. Farmers often toil for hours to clear lotus paddies of rotting stems, which ruin the soil and bring unwanted insects. Dressed head-to-toe in brown silk and wearing a pearl necklace -- the same outfit she dons as she picks through the lotus paddies -- Thuan describes her work. While a regular silk scarf might go for $20, even a smaller lotus version -- popular with pre-coronavirus tourists -- fetches more than 10 times that. Although lotus silk is made in a handful of countries -- including Myanmar and Cambodia -- Thuan is seen as an innovator in Vietnam.

PM 'can't stop' rally by supportersAfter chairing a meeting of the National Security Council yesterday, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said that he could not prevent anyone from holding a rally to support the government, as long as they follow the law. He referred to the Thai Pakdee (Loyal Thai) group which is planning a rally at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre at Pathumwan intersection in Bangkok on Sunday. The minister referred to the Royalist Marketplace page on Facebook operated by Pavin Chachavalpongpun, which contains sensitive posts about the monarchy. The page, which is now blocked in Thailand, had one million members discussing the country's king. Facebook on Tuesday indicated that requests by the government to block access to accounts breach international human rights law and affect free speech.

Hope at last in 'Boss' case? Mr Vorayuth, also known as "Boss", drove his Ferrari that hit and killed policeman Wichian Klanprasert on Sukhumvit Road in the early hours of Sept 3, 2012. "There were definitely flaws, otherwise it would not have taken so long", Mr Vicha said. The committee would also look into whether there was any abuse of power in the way public prosecutors handled the case. This bold decision by Gen Prayut and Mr Vicha could rekindle hope that justice may be back on track.

Varuth HirunyathebTourism needs to adopt lessons learned from the outbreak to enhance safety and health competitiveness as the industry's priorities shift from volume to value, says the Tourism Authority of Thailand. TAT governor Yuthasak Supasorn said effective risk management will be the key to overcoming challenges next year if the world is hit by a second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. He identified three groups making up a large part of local tourism: Thai people (some 80% from Bangkok), expats, and employees in the governmental and commercial sectors. At present, Thailand ranks 88th out of 140 countries in health and hygiene and 111th in safety and security. Mr Krit said just 10% of exhibition operators in the industry will make it through to the other side of the crisis.

Four car speed experts, including those previously asked to participate in the lengthy investigation, were asked to again estimate how fast he had been driving. They also insisted these calculations were accurate, said Pol Lt Gen Jaruwat. One part of the report deals with new evidence justifying reckless driving and drug charges against Mr Vorayuth.
