Pakistan reports 75 COVID-19 cases, no death in 24 hours
Pakistan has reported no death in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has risen to 1,528,347. The nationwide tally of fatalities stands at 30,371 on Friday. According to the latest figures by the National Institute of Health (NIH), at least 75 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 across the country in the past 24 hours. Pakistan has conducted 17,918 tests in the past 24 hours out of which 75 persons were tested positive for the disease. The COVID Positivity Ratio was recorded at 0.42 percent.

Maulana Tariq Jameel leads Dua for nation’s progress, prosperity
ISLAMABAD: Prominent religious scholar Maulana Tariq Jameel on Thursday led collective Dua (prayer) for the progress and prosperity of the nation, Pakistan, and the Muslim Ummah in a prayer function organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in connection with Shab-e-Qadr. Moulana Jameel, on the occasion highlighted the importance of Shab e Qadr in the light of the Quranic verses and sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Addressing a prayer function, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said the nations which did not pursue its ideology were doomed. He said that Pakistan which came into being on 27th Ramazan was to become a welfare state, on the pattern of the state of Madinah. He said people should pray today that we become a great nation.

There are parallel strains in South Asia in the two neighbouring states of India and Pakistan where the respective bourgeoisie are at the back of a political change. India now imagines its role in the world from a Hindu lens and has turned into a dominantly mythologically driven state and society. Indian society has thus only regressed and defaced its liberal, inclusive and secular nature. Hyper-nationalism around religion is the common mantra for both the Indian state and the society threatening and destabilising the region and the neighbourhood. In Pakistan, religion as a plank came later.

KARACHI- Commander Sachal Rangers Brig Altaf Ahmad hosted an Iftar reception in the honour of Pakistan Wheelchair Tennis team, which took part in BNP Paribas ITF Wheelchair Tennis Qualifier Cup at Antalya, Turkey last month. We also find that the proportion of people in the labour force, normalised by the country’s population, has increased slightly from 32.1 percent to 32.3 percent. Refining this and normalising the labour force by the working age population of Pakistan (age ten years and above), we find that the labour force participation rate has stagnated between 2018-19 to 2020-21. The unemployment rate, which measures the proportion of unemployed people in the total labour force, is down to 6.3 percent. This report paints a rosy picture of the labour force in Pakistan.

Zardari reportedly reaches Dubai after name removed from ECL
Former president Asif Ali Zardari reportedly reached Dubai on Thursday after his name was struck off the Exit Control List (ECL). According to Express News, the PPP co-chairman left Islamabad for Dubai last night in a private aircraft. The interior ministry started issuing notifications for removal of those names from the ECL that had been on it for 120 days without any compelling reason. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah had said that the names were put on the ECL for political revenge. There are names of 4,863 people on ECL, blacklist, 30,000 people in PNIL.

PM Shehbaz rejected summary for fuel price increase: Marriyum
Minister of Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Thursday announced that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif rejected the summary for the increase in prices of petroleum products, accusing the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) government of 'incompetence' stating that citizens must not suffer due to the mistakes of the former government. “This government is making every possible effort to not further burden people already facing the brunt of high inflation,” the information minister added. The previous prime minister had frozen oil prices till the budget amid political turmoil. The oil and gas regulatory authority (Ogra) had moved a summary to increase the price of diesel over Rs51 per litre to do away with price differential claims from April 16. However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had refused to increase prices and turned down the summary.
