Sanchez said that the economy was doing well and growth would probably be closer to what Pakistani authorities had an-nounced. Like Sri Lanka, Pakistan’s annual bill for oil imports amounts to around 60% of its foreign exchange reserves. This makes our economy very vulnerable to Brent crude prices as we constantly borrow in dollars to finance energy imports. This hurts the overall economy in the long run, and we see increasing inequality, declining foreign exchange reserves and rising current account deficit (CAD). Line losses of DISCOs are as much as a structural problem as they are a behavioural problem.

A little while later, the Buffalo Bills called with interest in the Bears’ first of two picks in Round 5. Once again, the Bears backpedaled down the Round 5 draft order while adding more picks. ISLAMABAD – The historic 120-year-old Markazi Jamia Masjid of Rawalpindi is facing an acute water shortage and a lack of patronage from the Evacuee Property Trust Board (ETBP) as the maintenance and basic amenities were managed on a self-help basis. He informed that the mosque was an irresistible tourist attraction and religious spot as people in swathes gather at Jamia Masjid to offer Eid and Jumma prayers. “Jamia Masjid needs to be given due attention to keep it preserved for the coming generations,” said Khalid Bhatti a faithful observing Eitekaf during Ramzan for the past 35 years. He told that the mosque has a huge prayer area and dozens of people used to observe Eitekaf at the Jamia Masjid but due to the post-pandemic situation the number has significantly dropped. “The architecture of Jamia Masjid resembles that of other grand mosques built by Mughal Emperors which also makes it a centre of attraction,” he added.

PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan on Saturday announced that his party would hold a long march to Islamabad in the last week of May against an “imported government” that was imposed on the country in cahoots with foreign powers. In a video message, the former premier said that the decision to stage the long march was made in the PTI's core committee meeting. Imran, a cricket star-turned-politician, claimed that the US was behind his ouster from power, an assertion that Washington denies. In his letters to the CJP and president, Imran claimed that the summary contained proof that the vote of no confidence -- which saw him ousted on April 9 -- was part of a “foreign-funded conspiracy”. Imran called upon the SC and President Alvi to “live up” to the trust placed upon them to “protect the people of Pakistan from such foreign conspiracies”.

One of the most pressing contributions of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) is the publication of its annual report on the state of human rights. The report maps out the existing problems regarding human rights and Pakistan’s compliance with UN treaties, the progress witnessed in the last year, and suggestions for improvement. Perhaps not surprisingly, 2021’s report, published this month, shows a deteriorating situation regarding human rights as per last year and outlines the disappointing performance goals in 2021. The report notes how the last year was exceptionally depressing regarding the state of human rights in Pakistan. Regarding forced conversions, for example, the report notes that documented at least 27 alleged forced conversions in Sindh in 2021, seven of which involved minors.

The 2022 NFL Draft ended early for the Jets today. These players officially become free agents and eligible to sign with any team. This might not be a particularly active undrafted free agent period for the Jets. By my count, the team has 80 players under contract currently, and we must add the 7 players drafted over the weekend. Of course the Jets could easily cut players at the bottom of the roster to clear room for undrafted free agents.
