USF to launch fibre optic project in Gwadar
The Universal Service Fund (USF) is set to launch a fibre optic project in Gwadar to bring 4G-compatible high-speed internet and telecom services in the region and the project is expected to be completed by the middle of next year. The USF has finalised the paperwork for several projects including 400 kilometre of fibre project in Gwadar and to bring 4G services in Loralai area of Balochistan, apart from upgrading data services to 4G in Vehari, Lodhran, Sialkot, Narowal, Nankana Sahib and Sheikhpura. Apart from the residential and commercial districts, the USF has an extensive plan to cover the national road arteries. The project to have IT and telecom at M-4 motorway is also likely to be launched next month. Since 2018, the USF has launched 56 projects amounting to more than Rs52 billion, for providing optical fibre cable and broadband services across the country.

MQM-P proposes 5 names for Sindh governorship
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM), a coalition party of the newly-elected government, has sent proposals to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif for governorship of Sindh. The former governor sent his resignation to President Arif Alvi hours before Shehbaz took the oath as the prime minister. The names were sent unanimously after consulting each member of the Coordinating Committee, however, the party is open to review if objections are raised. Employees link to PSDP-funded projects get pay boost
The government announcement would apply to current employees and officials directly recruited for the PSDP-funded projects in the country. The employees would get an annual increment of five percent in their salaries. The new pay package is applicable to current employees as well as those to be recruited in the PSDP-funded projects. The newly-hired contractual employees would also get a five percent annual increment on their initial pay grade. Contractual employees would be eligible for annual increment upon completion of one year of service from the date of joining.

FBR revenue collection surges by 28.6pc in 10 months
The ongoing unprecedented and constant growth trajectory in revenue collection has been achieved despite massive tax relief given by the government on various essential items to common man. Similarly, zero rating on pharmaceutical products has cost FBR Rs10 billion in Sales Tax during the month of April, 2022. Thus, in aggregate these relief measures have impacted revenue collection by approximately Rs73 billion during the month of April, 2022. Furthermore, the political uncertainty and import compression also negatively impacted revenue collection during April. This has not only resulted in ensuring the ease of doing business but also translated in a healthy and steady growth in revenue collection.

Two killed another injured in road mishap
BUREWALA – A man and woman were killed while another sustained serious injury in a collision between two motorcycles at Okanwala road near Village 118/EB on Monday. According to Rescue 1122 sources, Fazal Din was returning home from market along with a female of the family namely Sardaran Bibi on motorcycle when another speeding motorcycle collided with them. Resultantly, both sustained serious injuries and died on the spot while the other motorcyclist namely Saifullah received serious injuries. The rescue officials shifted the bodies and injured to nearby hospital, rescue 1122 sources added.
