The homeowners, who sought N100million in damages, claimed that despite not providing certain services stipulated in the land sales and management agreement, CMB unilaterally increased its service charges without consulting them. The estate management company further averred that a reticulation fees was levied on the homeowners to facilitate the connection of the central water treatment reservoir to their homes. CBM insisted that the service charge was increased to N35, 000 monthly to enable it meet its obligation to the landowners. The court is of the firm view that the residents/homeowners must pay service charge as contained in the contract agreement. Although PW2 stated under cross-examination that his tenants paid service charge, there was no evidence tendered to show payment.

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has disclosed plans to partner with the Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and other sister agencies in the establishment of the Domestic Export Warehouse (DEW) at the seaports to tackle logistics challenges in the sector. Jime noted that part of the responsibility of NSC in the establishment of DEW includes development of standard operating procedures in collaboration with critical agencies for the operation of the warehouses. He said the agency would provide guidelines for setting tariffs for the operation of DEW and address complaints that may arise between the DEW operators and exporters. He dropped the hint that NSC has recommended the usage of inland dry ports as DEW. He, however, expressed worry over the high level of non-compliance to trade rules by both importers and exporters, saying NSC is willing to collaborate with NEPC to address this challenge.

On April 5, 2021, a group of local militants in Bonta, a town in the Konshinsha Local Government Area of Nigeria’s northwestern Benue State, waylaid and killed some soldiers coming from Okpute, a neighbouring community in the Oju Local Government Area of the state. “The soldiers claimed they came for peace but they were only fuelling the war,” said Gungul Samuel, a local familiar with the activities of the militants. Bonta residents we interviewed believed they were attacked with the ammunition the soldiers supplied to the Igede militants in Oju. They mounted a roadblock in Bonta just as the Igede militants had done in Okpute. The communal war got the attention of the state government, necessitating the intervention of the police and soldiers, 12 of whom were murdered by the Bonta Boys.

…analysts say Nigeria’s debt too expensiveNigeria spent 86 per cent of its revenue on servicing debt in 2021, but South Africa spent only 20 per cent of its receipts on the same purpose, according to findings by The PUNCH. According to the International Monetary Fund’s 2021 Article IV estimates, Africa’s most populous nation spent 85.5 per cent of its revenue on servicing the debt in 2021. Nigeria’s total debt by end of December 2021 was only 30 per cent of South Africa’s debt, yet the former’s debt service appears too expensive, according to analysts. Nigeria’s total debt as at December 2021 was $94.166bn, according to the Debt Management Office, but South Africa’s total debt at the same period was $261bn, according to the country’s National Treasury and Bloomberg. Another major reason for Nigeria’s high debt service-to-revenue is its low revenue generation.

It said the fact that car remotes are categorised as short-range devices that make use of radiofrequency (RF) to lock and unlock cars informed the need for the commission to sensitise Nigerians to the emergent danger. “Multiple researchers disclosed a vulnerability, which is said to be used by a nearby attacker to unlock some Honda and Acura car models, and start their engines wirelessly,” he said. This makes it difficult for an attacker to ‘replay’ the codes thereafter. The RKE system, on the other hand, represents the standard solution for conveniently locking and unlocking a vehicle’s doors and luggage compartment by remote control.
