2023: Tinubu in Benue, promises to tackle corruption
The National leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC) and presidential aspirant, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was in Makurdi, Benue State capital on Tuesday and promised to tackle corruption. He encouraged youths to get their PVC revalidated, saying that he is of age but will not retire from politics until he becomes president of the country. “To you, the youths of Benue be determined and get your PVCs, revalidate it, I am with you, Akume is with you and others (leaders) who are not here are with you to guarantee your posterity, hope, a united and prosperous Nigeria. “We are of age, we can retire soon, but I am not going to retire until I become president.”The national leader of APC said that if given the mandate, he will turn around the fortune of the country where corruption will be tackled on all fronts, ensuring the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians. Panic As Firing Gunmen Enforce Sit-At-Home In Asaba
Gunmen have forcefully enforced sit-at-home order in some parts of Asaba, the capital of Delta state, according to Guardian Nigeria. This is as the Indigenous People of Biafra had since suspended sit-at-home order on Mondays. FG flags off International training of trainers in basic emergency care services
The Federal Government has flagged off the International Training of Trainers in Basic Emergency Care Services organised by the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC). Dr Saidu commended the management of ICRC for packaging the Training of Trainers of the Basic Emergency Care Services (BECS), which is the first of its kind in sub-Sahara Africa to give credence to effective medical emergency response. “As part of Mr President Health Sector Agenda, we currently have the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF), with three gateways, the NPHCDA, NHIS and EMT. Dr Mundi informed that ICRC works day in and day out to urgently increase the capacity of healthcare workers for effective basic emergency services to help humanity. Dr Mundi disclosed that the organisation remains totally committed to supporting Member States to strengthen these essential medical emergency services and cherished the collaboration cooperation existing between ICRC and the Federal Ministry of Health.

UPDATED: Many feared dead in Kano explosion
Scores were feared dead following an explosion along Court Road in Sabon Gari, Kano State on Tuesday. The explosion, which occurred near a private secondary school, Winners School, destroyed a residential building and affected part of the school. The explosion occurred around 9:30 am with many schoolchildren affected. The National Emergency Management Agency and Fire service operatives were also on the ground trying to rescue victims of the explosion. Meanwhile, the Kano State Government clarified that the early Tuesday morning explosion in the Sabon Gari area did not occur in a school.

Soaring food prices, fuel scarcity push inflation rate to 16.82%
This represents the highest rate recorded since August 2021 (highest in eight months). Similarly, the urban inflation rate increased to 17.35 per cent (year-on-year) in April 2022 from 18.68per cent recorded in April 2021, while the rural inflation rate increased to 16.32per cent in April 2022 from 17.57per cent in April 2021. The NBS report showed that food inflation rose to 18.37per cent in the review month, an increase compared to the 17.2 per cent recorded in the preceding month. “This rise in the food index was caused by increases in the prices of Bread and cereals, Food products, Potatoes, yam, and other tubers, Wine, Fish, Meat, and Oils,” it stated. In the same vein, the core inflation rate rose to 14.18 per cent in April 2022 from 13.91 per cent recorded in the previous month.

EFCC arrests accountant-general for N80bn fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the serving Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, in connection with diversion of funds and money laundering activities to the tune of N80bn. The Spokesman for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, said this in a statement on Monday titled, ‘EFCC arrests Ahmed Idris, Accountant General of the Federation, for N80bn Fraud’. According to the commission, Idris was arrested after failing to honour an invitation. The statement read in part, “Operatives of the EFCC on Monday, May 16, 2022 arrested the serving Accountant General of the Federation, Mr. Ahmed Idris, in connection with diversion of funds and money laundering activities to the tune of N80bn. Mr. Idris was arrested after failing to honour invitations by the EFCC to respond to issues connected to the fraudulent acts.”Copyright PUNCH.

PSC promotes Magu, Oyo CP, six others as AIG
Magu, who is the most senior in CP’s cadre, had missed the last two promotions after returning to policing job. The PSC also approved the promotion of 23 deputy commissioners to the rank of Commissioners of Police, with 31 Assistant Commissioners becoming Deputy Commissioners of Police and 63 Chief Superintendents of Police promoted to Assistant Commissioners of Police. The plenary meeting, which began last Wednesday, was presided over by the PSC chairman and former Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Musiliu Smith. The commission also promoted 1,698 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) to Deputy Superintendents of Police, 6,119 Inspectors who attended the recent Departmental Selection Board (DSB), were promoted to ASP11, while 1,965 ASP11 were confirmed ASPs. Congratulating the promoted officers, the PSC chairman charged them to redouble their efforts in the service of their fatherland.

Flight disruption looms as fuel scarcity worsens | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News
Barely a week after the intervention that fixed aviation fuel at N480/litre, Jet-A1 scarcity has hit local airlines causing multiple flights delay. The Guardian learnt that more than half of scheduled flights were delayed for hours yesterday. The operating carriers have also warned the travelling public to brace up for massive disruptions in the days ahead. At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to reduce jet fuel from N700 to N480/litre, with fuel marketers demonised as the cause of surging cost. Spokesperson of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, said the delays would worsen due to growing scarcity of aviation fuel.
