201 hospitalised after inhaling chemical from cylinder in Kano
No fewer than 201 residents of Sharada Quarters in Kano State were, on Friday, hospitalised after inhaling chemicals from a cylinder dismantled by metal scrappers. Following the incident, the victims were rushed to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital, Sharada Industrial Hospital and Ja’en Hospital, for urgent medical attention. The Territorial Coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency in Kano, Nuradeen Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in Kano on Saturday. “The cylinder chemical explosion occurred on Friday at about 4:00pm, at Sharada Industrial Area. “Thirty-five victims received treatment at Sharada Industrial Hospital and 96 at Ja’en Hospital,” he added.

Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema has dropped an appeal against a one-year suspended sentence for complicity in a bid to blackmail former France teammate Mathieu Valbuena with a sex tape, his lawyer said Saturday. The Real Madrid star has finally dropped his appeal, his lawyer Hugues Vigier told AFP, confirming a report on the Actu78 website. The Versailles court of appeal will notify the parties of the withdrawal order on Tuesday. Cabin crew: NCAA to audit foreign airlines on employment of Nigerians

The minister commended the hospital’s management, NEMA, SEMA, and the Nigerian Red Cross, for their support to the victims during the incident.

A high-speed rail driver was killed and several passengers injured after a train derailed in southwest China’s Guizhou province on Saturday, state media reported. The train, which was en route to Guangdong province, derailed after running into debris that had fallen onto the tracks near a tunnel, official broadcaster CCTV reported. A rail conductor and seven passengers were injured and sent to hospital, CCTV said, adding that “their lives were not in danger”. In recent years, fatal accidents have been rare on China’s rail network, which is the world’s largest high-speed transport system. But in 2017, twelve workers died in an explosion wile building a high-speed rail tunnel in Guizhou.
