The Alliance for Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and Value Seed are set to train and empower 50,000 women and youth under the Gender Consortium project. The Gender Consortium which is an initiative of AGRA and jointly implemented with Value Seed is a 3-year project which is targeted to touch the lives of smallholder women and youth farmers. In an interview with the AGRA Project Lead at Value Seed, Idoko Gabriel during a sensitization exercise on the project, he said in the Gender Consortium project, Value Seeds will train the women in different capacities like seeds production. “I think from there, Value Seeds has become very prominent in the state. FG laments disease morbidity rates due to contaminated food consumption
The Federal Government has lamented the high rate of disease morbidity contracted by eating contaminated foods as children under the age of five are most at risk of the scourge. According to Ehanire, “food, if not safe, is like poison, hence the need to educate Nigerians on food safety from farm to the final consumers. ‘We are stuck’: months of university strikes leave young Nigerians’ lives on hold
Nigeria’s Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the umbrella body for university lecturers, went on strike on 14 February … and staff have not returned since. “The bulk of the work I do at this level is hands-on, not what you can study at home. Fact Check: The Guardian published an article titled "The Amber Heard-Johnny Depp Trial was the female holocaust."
A digitally altered photo of a headline from a Guardian article was falsely attributed to the newspaper and shared on social media. Context:On April 12, 2022, actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard went on trial in a defamation case brought by Depp over a Washington Post article written by Heard in 2018. Recent social media posts claim that the Guardian published an article by Moira Donegan with the headline “The Amber Heard-Johnny Depp Trial was the female holocaust.” The post had a photo of the purported headline and Donegan’s face at the bottom. Proving, of course, that they’re not at all susceptible to disinformation.”Verdict:The photo in the social media post altered the headline of the article. The original article was an opinion piece that does not refer to a female holocaust but instead discusses how the Depp-Heard trial was misogynistic and unfair.

Motorists, commuters agonise as work resumes on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World News
It was another day of lamentation yesterday, for motorists and commuters plying Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as they spent hours in traffic, following commencement of rehabilitation work on kilometre 0-5 of the road. Apart from the Ojodu route, other commuters trekked from Berger to Alausa Secretariat before continuing their journey. MEANWHILE, Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversion plans aalong the axis from June 9, for a period of six months. According to the State Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, kilometre 0-5 of the Lagos/Sagamu Expressway will be modified for traffic diversion. He assured that the other lanes will be accessible to motorists during the course of the road construction.

Dimeji Bankole withdraws from presidential race, backs Tinubu

One killed, two trapped in Kano building collapse
A three-storey building, on Tuesday, collapsed at the popular textile market, Kantin Kwari, killing one person, while an unspecified number of others were said to have suffered varying degrees of injury. The Public Relations Officer of the state fire service, Saminu Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident, said one of the victims had already been confirmed dead, two trapped, while two others suffered injuries. He said the agency received a distress call around 2.30pm that the three-storey building under construction collapsed. Abdullahi said, “The first and second floors of the building were already completed, while the third floor, which was under construction suddenly collapsed, resulting in the collapse of the completed first and second floors. “Our firefighters mobilised and rushed the victims to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where one was confirmed dead by doctors on duty.”Copyright PUNCH.

EU sets date for common phone charge cable
The European Union has provisionally agreed new portable electronic devices must, by autumn 2024, use a USB Type-C charger. This includes Apple products such as iPhones and iPads, and, ultimately, laptop computers, but will not apply to existing devices. The agreement also includes a plan to let customers choose whether or not they want a charging cable with their new electronics. “This law is a part of a broader EU effort to make products in the EU more sustainable, to reduce electronic waste, and make consumers’ lives easier,” the EU said in its announcement. It would save consumers “up to €250m [£213m] a year on unnecessary charger purchases” and cut 11,000 tonnes of waste per year, the EU added.

Titan Trust Bank secures $300mn financing to support acquisition of Union Bank
In order to support its acquisition of a majority stake in Union Bank Plc, Nigeria (UBN), Titan Trust Bank (TTB) has secured a US$300 million Intra-African Investment Financing Facility from African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank). Afreximbank’s financial support enables TTB to secure the acquisition of a well-capitalised bank with an extensive network, helping it to better serve vital economic activities of the public sector, companies, and small and medium-sized enterprises. Afreximbank will continue to support the newly merged entity in trade finance to promote intra- and extra-African trade through its broad range of programmes and initiatives, including the Afreximbank Trade Facilitation Programmes (AfTRAF) and AfPAY, the Bank’s international payment services. US judge authorises seizure of Abramovich’s planes
A United States judge has authorised the seizure of two aircraft owned by Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovich, for violating export restrictions as well as U.S. sanctions on Russia. The Department of Justice said a federal judge in New York authorised the seizure requested by federal agents of a Boeing 787-8 and a Gulfstream G650ER. However, the ruling is likely to make it difficult to use the planes for international travel in the future. The U.S. authorities were also seeking fines of up to twice the value of the planes. Abramovich, 55, is one of the multiple Russian billionaires targeted by sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine.

Only 44% of Nigerians have access to smartphones –Report
Only about forty four per cent of Nigerians have access to smartphones, according to a new report by Alliance for Affordable Internet. The report also disclosed that 58.2 per cent of Nigerians living in urban areas have smartphones while only 29.5 per cent of those living in rural areas have. According to the body, 81 per cent of Nigerians do not have meaningful connectivity. It said the number rises to 14 per cent in urban areas and falls to a five per cent in rural areas. It said that in urban areas, this increases to one in seven, and one in 20 in rural areas.
