There was pandemonium on Saturday after masked gunmen stormed Ekwe Community in the Isu Local Government Area of Imo State and abducted 15 male youths of the community. The gunmen stormed the community through the Njaba River that demarcated Ekwe Community from Amucha Community in Njaba LGA, a community leader said. Akubuo said that the gunmen shoot indiscriminately into the air and were in search of more youths of the community to abduct. He said some young men and other natives who sighted them from afar dashed into nearby bushes to escape abduction. The traditional ruler disclosed that four of the gunmen who stormed his palace wore camouflage with no masks.

A man arrested for immigration offences was released on bail after protesters gathered in south-east London on Saturday for hours to block a van he was being transported in from leaving. Metropolitan police officers were called to Evan Cook Close, near Queens Road train station, shortly after 1.30pm “to a report of protesters obstructing immigration officers” and said officers remained at the scene shortly before 5pm. A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers attended and found a van was being prevented from leaving the location. “One man has been arrested for immigration offences.”The Met later said the man was arrested by immigration enforcement officers and has since been released on bail. Popoola added: “He’s being released, peaceful protest is powerful.”Police hold back activists trying to block an immigration van from transporting a prisoner.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), has expressed its commitment to ensuring that the FCT contingent to Saudi Arabia for the 2022 Hajj operation gets the best treatment compared to other states of the federation or even the world. FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, gave this commitment while addressing the first batch of 410 pilgrims to the Holy land held at the permanent Hajj camp, Bassan, Abuja. In his remarks, Director, FCT Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board, Malam Muhammad Nasiru Danmallam, revealed that the board has approved a total number of 1,995 pilgrims from FCT to perform this year’s Hajj exercise. Danmallam commended the efforts of the FCT Minister of State for making it possible to secure a befitting accommodation in Makkah for the pilgrims located about 800 meters away from the holy Haram. Some villagers in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State have fled their homes following Sunday’s attack that left no fewer than 32 people dead while others were injured, Saturday PUNCH learnt. The Kaduna State Government through its Commissioner for International Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, confirmed the attack. It was gathered that the bloodthirsty terrorists attacked Ugwan Gamu, Dogon Noma, Ungwan Sarki, and Maikori villages near Maro in Kajuru LGA on Sunday, June 5, 2022. This came less than 24 hours after terrorists abducted 14 persons at Iri Station, about 8km from Idon town, Idon Ward of the same Kajuru LGA. The statement alleged that the attack was carried out by terrorists who came on about 150 motorcycles carrying three AK-47-wielding persons each.

Nigeria had secured her first gold medal on Thursday through Oluwatobi Amusan in the 100m hurdles, and expectations were high yesterday when the women’s 4x100m relay team filed out in the final. Despite stiff challenge from the South Africans and The Gambians, the Nigerian women controlled the race from the beginning till the end, securing the gold medal in 44.45seconds. Team Nigeria officials were expecting the men’s 4x100m relay team to take inspiration from their female counterpart. Kenya picked the gold in 39.28 seconds, while South Africa and Zimbabwe got the silver and bronze medals respectively. Programmes Lead at My World of Bags, Sinmi Olayebi, has said that the Kafawa Training Program has been designed to help realise the predicted value of the Nigerian leather industry. According to her, based on expert assessments and reports, the leather industry in Nigeria could generate at least $1bn in revenue by 2025. Olayebi said what the industry lacked in skilled manpower, the Kafawa Training Programme would provide in the coming years. She said it was designed to help unemployed youths tap into the immense potential of the leather industry, which was beginning to gain increasing currency by the day. According to her, with Nigeria being one of the biggest producers and exporters of raw leather materials and reportedly one of the highest producers of leather and finished leather products in Africa, the industry was estimated to generate over $1bn by 2025.

Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje of the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Thursday, has ordered the remand of one Sakiru Oladosu, 50, and Tola Rasaq, 40, for defiling and impregnating a 13-year-old girl. PUNCH Metro gathered that the defendants took the victim for an unlawful abortion after getting her pregnant. The police had arraigned the defendants, who reside in the Mushin area of Lagos, on charges of defilement and unlawful procurement of abortion. During the hearing, the prosecuting counsel, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences in February on Odusanmi Street, Mushin, Lagos.
