My 3-year old son doesn’t like to eat. I want to start him on Vitamins but some of my friends told me that Vitamins are not very effective. Ada (by WhatsApp)Even though a lot of people consume Vitamins on a daily basis, recent scientific research has confirmed that many of the Vitamins we consume are not very helpful. For this reason, I will also advise that instead of piling him up with Vitamins, it is better to encourage him to eat fresh food items. You can do this by giving him his preferred food items.

Couple in NSCDC net for allegedly maltreating househelp
NNN: The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps(NSCDC) in Kano State confirmed the arrest of a couple, for allegedly maltering their 14-year-old househelp. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Ibrahim Idris-Abdullahi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Friday in Kano. He said the suspects Ahmed Abdulkarim and Safiyya Shamsuddeen who reside in Na’ibawa Yankatako Quarters in Kano, were arrested on June 28. “The victim, who is a minor, hails from Kazaure Local Government Area of Jigawa. He added that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

FIFA to use semi-automatic offside technology at Qatar World Cup
FIFA says it will use semi-automatic offside technology at the November to December World Cup to make video assistant decisions faster and more reliable. Football’s world governing body said on Friday that the system would be used in all 64 matches in Qatar. The new offside technology was tested at the Arab Cup and the Club World Cup in February. The data will be reviewed by a video assistant and immediately relayed to the referee on the field. In addition to more precise measurements, it is also hoped that the technology speeds up video assistant reviews for offside.

Reps plan separate pension scheme for NASS
The House of Representatives has begun the process of pulling out the National Assembly from the contributory pension scheme under the administration of the National Pension Commission. The House is to create a separate body to administer matters relating to pensions for workers in the federal parliament. At the plenary on Thursday, the House considered and adopted the report of its Committee on National Planning and Economic Development on the legislation titled ‘A Bill for an Act to Amend the Pension Reform Act, 2014 to Exclude/Exempt the National Assembly Service from the Contributory Pension Scheme and Establish the National Assembly Service Pension Board.’The Chairman of the committee, Olododo Cook, said the proposal was to exempt the personnel of the National Assembly from the Contributory Pension Scheme and to establish a National Assembly Service Pensions Board “to be charged with the responsibility of administering the pensions scheme for personnel of the service.”Cook stated, “This bill is in consequence of the exit of the service from the application of the contributory pensions scheme under the Pensions Reform Act, 2014.”The bill seeks to amend Section 5(1)(a) of the Act by inserting the words ‘the National Assembly service’ to read thus: ‘The categories of persons exempted from the Contributory Pension are (a) the categories of persons mentioned in Section 291 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), members of the intelligence community and the National Assembly service personnel.’

Court restrains Kano govt from borrowing N10bn to install CCTV cameras
A Federal High Court in Kano, presided over by Justice Abdullahi Liman, on Friday, restrained the Kano State government from borrowing N10 billion for the installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras. KFF, through its counsel, led by Mr Badamasi Suleiman-Gandu, prayed the court to restrain Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State from borrowing a N10 billion loan. ALSO READ FROM NIGERIAN TRIBUNEOther respondents in the suit are the Attorney General of Kano State, Commissioner of Finance Kano and Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly. He also ordered the plaintiff to serve the Federal Ministry of Finance, Debt Management Office and Fiscal Responsibility Commission with the order and other court processes. The State House of Assembly had on June 15 approved Ganduje’s request to access N10 billion from a commercial bank.

4,770 terrorists surrendered in two weeks, says DHQ
The Defence Headquarters on Thursday disclosed that 4,770 Boko Haram terrorists surrendered to troops between June 1 and 15, 2022. Those who surrendered, according to the military high command, include 2,490 children; 1,415 women and 814 men. Addressing journalists at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday on the activities of the military between June 16 and 30, the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Benard Onyeuko, said all the surrendered terrorists have been profiled. He said, “Members of Boko Haram terrorists have continued to surrender to own troops at different locations in the theatre. “Between June 1 and 15, 2022, a total of 4,770 of them, comprising 864 adult males, 1,415 women and 2,490 children surrendered.

We can’t win fight against sexual, gender based abuses without adequate data — Oyo SGBVRT
As cases of sexual and gender based violence continues to take the front burner of discussions, especially following persistence in cases of violence against women and girls, the Oyo State Sexual and Gender Based Violence Response Team (Oyo SGBVRT), has emphasised the need for effective data collation for the fight against violence to be effective. We cannot continue to have data that is not up to date or duplicated across agencies to increase figures. The team further agreed that without data, it will be difficult to prosecute offenders, help victims and adequately sensitise the public. It will also help us to monitor improvement or lack of it in what we do,” the team said. Oyo SGBVRT canvassed for the establishment of a data collection and analysis system that every partner can access.

Oyo students win national essay writing, science contest
The duo of Master Asala Oreoluwa of Government College, Ibadan and Miss Rosemary Anuoluwapo Ajiboye of Sacred Hearts College, Akinyemi, Ibadan, have emerged winners of the 2022 National Schools Essay Writing and Nigeria Mathematics and Sciences Olympiads Competitions. Soludo ban markets, parks executives from collecting revenue
Anambra State governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has barred all markets and parks executives from collecting revenue in the state for the government. The governor also disclosed that his administration will commence implementation of a new tax and levy regime in Anambra markets, roads and parks from July 1, 2022, and it is targeted at blocking leakages in revenue collection. Soludo warned those posing as a government revenue collector in any part of the state, to desist forthwith or face the full wrath of the law. He, however, directed that henceforth, all public parks owned by the government will be directly managed by the government, saying that caretaker committee members in Anambra markets are forbidden from collecting revenue on behalf of the government. Soludo noted that the new tax regime has become imperative as the era of revenue generation through the sale of crude oil in Nigeria is gradually phasing out.
