THERE are indications that the use of payment service banks is increasingly reflecting in the market while that of Point of Sales (POS) service is reducing. Industry data from the Financial Derivatives Company (FDC) shows that the value of POS transactions in May stood at N682.82 billion as against N666.36 billion in June, representing a -2.41 per cent decline. However, aggregate value of transactions rose by 6.36 per cent in June, an uptick from 1.42 per cent in May, partly supported by increased spending ahead of the Eid al-Adha celebration. This is even as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), over the weekend released an exposure draft on Digital Financial Services Awareness (DFS) guidelines, which the apex bank said it developed in order “to address gaps in consumer knowledge and practices with Digital financial Services (DFS).”According to the CBN’s Consumer Protection Department which issued the document, the guidelines apply to Deposit Money Banks (DMBs), Merchant banks, Other Financial Institutions (OFIs), Payment Service Banks (PSBs) and other payment service institutions as licensed by the regulator. One of the key objectives of the guidelines, the CBN said, is to set “Digital Financial Literacy (DFL) standards for Digital Financial Services Providers (DFSP).”ALSO READ FROM NIGERIAN TRIBUNEFor instance, the document stipulates that DFS providers, among other requirements, are expected to “Provide information that will enable consumers differentiate DFS products from conventional banking products and services; ensure ease of access to information on all product offerings to enable consumers make informed decisions; provide information on products in simple English and local languages; conduct outreach to underserved populations regarding DFS options available to them and provide information on product usage and how to obtain support services when the need arises.”In addition, DFS providers are expected to “Develop and deliver educational materials to prospective and existing customers through basic channels such as Short Message Service (SMS), Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and at agent locations, in addition to app, web and social media platforms and submit developed educational materials to the Director of Consumer Protection, CBN for review.”

Data collated from different reports of the National Bureau of Statistics showed that in January 2022, the FAAC disbursed N766.47bn to the three tiers of government. This was from the total revenue generated in December 2021. In February 2022, the FAAC disbursed the sum of N692.86bn to the three tiers of government from the total revenue generated in January 2022. Figures for March 2022 showed that the FAAC disbursed the sum of N722.38bn to the three tiers of government from the total revenue generated in February 2022. Cumulatively, the sum of N2.18trn was disbursed by the FAAC to the three arms of government in the first three months of 2022.

ARDOVA Plc has announced the release of its 2021 Audited Financial Statements and Q1 2022 Unaudited Financial Results. According to the financial results received from the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX), the company posted a profit of N1.54 billion in the year ended December 31, 2021. However, losses from subsidiaries Axles and Cartage, and newly acquired Enyo Retail and Supply Limited created a group net loss position of N3.8 billion. In Q1 2022, AP’s performance shows significant improvements as yields from investments made in 2021 contribute to growth in revenue, sales volume, and profits. We also concluded the acquisition of Enyo Retail and Supply Limited (ERSL) in a deal that makes our retail network the largest in Nigeria.

Equities trading at the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) last week was bearish as the All-Share Index (ASI) declined by 0.53 per cent. Investors, therefore, lost N139 billion from off their investment during the five-day trading activities. A total of 822.40 million shares valued at N10.37 billion were traded during the week across 20,643 deals on the floor of the Exchange. This is lower than the 1.35 billion units of shares valued at N24.49 billion that exchanged hands in the previous week in 22,155 deals. The Conglomerates Industry followed with 81.70 million shares worth N218.29 million in 605 deals, while the Consumer Goods Industry, stood in third place with a turnover of 55.05 million shares worth N855.32 million in 3,093 deals.
