An analysis of Nigeria’s 2023 proposed budget has shown that only N58 billion (0.29 per cent) is allocated to Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) programmes when measured as a percentage of the total budget. It however fell to 122 in the proposed 2023 budget. dRPC said the analysis is based on a detailed review of the capital component of the 2023 proposed budget. Increased budgetMs Adamu said the 2023 budget for the federal ministry of women’s affairs was greatly slashed compared to 2022. Ms Adamu urged the National Assembly to do the needful as they review the 2023 proposed budget.

The Department of State Services said it has launched a probe into allegations of unprofessional conduct by its operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State. An Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, had accused some operatives of the secret agency of begging passengers for money at the airportOlajengbesi, in a Facebook post, said, “It is actually an embarrassment to the entire nation to have DSS officers vetting people coming into the country at the Lagos airport begging for money. “One can forgive Immigration and Customs officers because this is simply customary but that of a very important agency like the DSS is shocking.”DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, however, said, “The attention of the Department of State Services has been drawn to the allegation by one Pelumi Olajengbesi that the Service’s personnel at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, engage in unprofessional conduct of sorts. “Consequently, the Service has launched a full investigation into the matter. It further invites Olajengbesi and indeed any member of the public with evidence in this regard to come forward to the Service with such for appropriate action(s).”

Former president of the United States, Donald Trump, said he would be making a “very big announcement” next week, amid talks that he was expected to jump into the race for the White House in 2024. Trump, who has never accepted the truth of his lost re-election bid in 2020, has hinted for months that he was ready to re-enter the fray. Speaking to a cheering crowd in Ohio on Monday, the eve of US polls which will determine control of Congress, Trump said he would make the “big announcement” in Florida next Tuesday. “Not to detract from tomorrow’s very important, even critical election… I’m going to be making a very big announcement on Tuesday, November 15 at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida,” he said. The 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Obinze, Owerri, says gunmen on Monday, attacked its officers on patrol at Izombe community, Oguta Local Government Area of Imo State. Police confirm arrest of 21 for various criminal offences in OyoPolice have confirmed the arrest of 21 suspects for various criminal offences including hijacking of vehicles, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms and other related vices. The suspects were found in possession of firearms, military uniforms, and a truckload of motor engines of different brands. At the criminal hideout, the following items were recovered: 194 pieces of live AK ammunition, five pairs of military camouflage, one small Itel cell phone, one cutlass, four hoes and three torches. At the time of arrest, according to the police report, the suspects were adorned in military gear for their operation. The prime suspect, (name withheld) at the time of arrest had in his possession a single barrel gun.

The Borno State Police Command said it arrested a housewife, Fatima Abubakar, 25, for allegedly killing her husband, Goni Abbah, with poison. Umar said the victim, who was the Chief Imam of the area, had returned from a mosque when the suspect, who was his second wife, allegedly put poison in his food.
