Jigawa: Fire razes hut, consumes mother, two daughters
A 30-year-old mother, Khadija Ibrahim, and her two daughters have died in a fire incident at Tsangarwa village, Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State. According to a statement issued by the spokesman for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, in the state, Adamu Shehu, the incident happened on Friday at about 11pm when fire razed a hut while the victims were asleep. The statement said, “The fire incident engulfed a hut, where the 30-year-old mother was sleeping alongside with her two daughters, four-year-old Aisha and two-year-old Rabi. The statement further explained that the mother and her daughters were completely consumed by the inferno, as none of the victims was rescued alive. “The cause of the fire was unknown, but neighbours said it might not be unconnected to a charcoal fire that was meant to keep them warm,’’ the statement said.

FUOYE declares lecture-free day as truck kills student
The management of the Federal University of Oye, Ekiti State, has declared a lecture-free day over the death of a first-year student of the Department of Quantity Survey. The student identified as Taiwo Gbolahan was reportedly crushed to death by a heavy truck along the Ikole-Oye highway in the state on Friday morning. Adding to the ugly situation, on November 16, 2022, Education Minister Adamu Adamu stressed that the government only pays for services rendered, so striking ASUU workers should not expect wages when off duty. In other words, these are statutory duties, and these laws are the responsibility of Dr. Chris Ngige as Minister of Labor and Employment. Instructively, ASUU is a registered union and cannot be above the Law, so it should digest the Labor Laws rather than take personal statutory issues against a brainy Ngige in a bout.
