The Gambian Diaspora is a force to be reckoned with. Diaspora roundtable conferences are held annually including Stake of the Nation’s Forum to discuss how the Gambian Diaspora will effectively participate and contribute meaningfully to national development. How about the living conditions of Gambian migrants in Libya? What is the gender proportion and average age bracket of these Gambian migrants?

Infections have recently spiked in the world’s second-largest economy and projections have suggested China could face an explosion of cases and more than a million deaths next year. “The WHO is very concerned over the evolving situation in China, with increasing reports of severe disease,” Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told reporters. Tedros said the agency needed more detailed information on disease severity, hospital admissions and requirements for intensive care units support for a comprehensive assessment of the situation. The comment comes as the German government confirmed it has sent its first batch of BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines to China to be administered initially to German expatriates. "This is what I confirmed previously to the Libyan people, who were subjected to a massive misinformation campaign." The Lockerbie agreement obliged the US to terminate existing lawsuits for financial compensation in US courts arising out of these incidents and precludes any future suits, confirmed Washington. Last week, Dbeibeh announced that his government had handed over Masud "to wipe the mark of terrorism from the Libyan people's forehead." On 31 January, 2001, a special Scottish court sitting in the Netherlands sentenced Libyan Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi to prison for the downing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie.

Libya plunged into crisis a decade ago when a NATO-backed uprising toppled Muammar Gaddafi. Now, if he indeed runs for President it will spoil all the decade long plans of the West for Libya. Hence UN is threatening that if elections are further delayed, it will lead to partition of the country. The west is wary of its growing presence and Seif-al-Islam coming to power is a nightmare for the US. Finally, it has turned to UN which is threatening a possible division of the country if elections are not held immediately.

Prosecutors said 14 people received lesser sentences in the case that involved a total of 33 defendants, state media reported on Tuesday. They said the ISIS members had resorted to “violence and armed operations in Sabratha and its surroundings”. ISIS and other armed groups proliferated in Libya after the fall of Muammar Qaddafi in a Nato-backed uprising that led to his removal and death in 2011. Analysts said divisions and rivalries between governments in the east and west had created an environment ripe for such armed groups to fester. Group trials against suspected ISIS members are also continuing in Libya, with the verdicts often resulting in death sentences.
