Libyan Parliament discuss Mariami’s extradition to US over alleged involvement in Lockerbie bombing
Libyan Parliament Spokesman Abdulla Bleihiq said the Parliament session Monday in Benghazi ended with the immunization and prevention of future extradition of any Libyan citizen by any party. The session was devoted to discussing extradition of Abu-Agila Masud al-Mariami to the United States over alleged involvement in the 1988-Lockerbie bombing. The deputies concluded with four points; first, selecting a parliamentary committee consisting of the Foreign Affairs Committee, the Legislative Committee, and the Justice Committee at the House of Representatives to follow up on the extradition case, according to the Spokesman. Secondly, addressing the judicial authority to assign a legal team to defend al-Mariami and follow up on the case. Third, to address the Public Prosecutor to provide a briefing to the Parliament on the extradition case.

Agreement on the export of electricity from Algeria to Libya
The Libyan news agency reported that the Algerian Sonelgaz complex will supply electricity to Libya, maintain and operate local stations and networks, and train workers. And Libya’s official news agency reported that the CEO of the Libyan Electricity Company, Abdul Hamid Al-Manfouh, discussed with his colleague in the Sonelgaz complex, Murad Ajal, “means of joint cooperation between the two countries.”A Libyan official on a visit to Algeria expressed his country’s desire to “take advantage of the experience of the Sonelgaz complex in the field of electricity and its supply.”The meeting also touched upon the maintenance and operation of power plants and networks, the production of spare parts and the training of Libyan tires in this area. Libya's FLY OYA takes first A320
FLY OYA (YI, Tripoli Mitiga) took delivery of its first A320-200, which is also its first narrowbody aircraft, on December 28, 2022. The 14.9-year-old 5A-EMA (msn 3418) was ferried from Cairo Int'l to Tripoli Mitiga. FLY OYA said it would use the aircraft to "open new destinations" but did not offer any details. Since then, the carrier has been wet-leasing a unit of the same type from Egypt's Ajwaa Airlines (AJY, Cairo Int'l). Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows, however, that SU-GCI (msn 696) was repositioned back to Cairo on December 14, thereby suspending FLY OYA's flight operations.

Dbeibeh: Elections to be held this year
Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, announced on Monday that his government of intends to hold the Libyan parliamentary and presidential elections this year. Speaking during a cabinet meeting, the Tripoli-based premier attacked the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, and chairman of the High Council of State, Khaled Al-Mishri. He accused them of “planning suspicious deals” and causing “repeated disappointments to the Libyan people because of their pursuit of power”. Dbeibeh did not specify the exact time or plan for holding the elections.

Gaddur accuses Dbeibah and foreign countries of sabotaging Libya
The foreign minister of the Libyan government appointed by the Parliament, Hafed Gaddur, in a New Year’s message implicitly urged the outgoing premier Abdel Hamid Dbeibah and several countries to stop sabotaging Libya and negatively interfering in its affairs. “To some personalities who have contributed to poisoning the political climate and instigating divisions”, wrote the head of diplomacy of Prime Minister Fathi Bashagha installed in Sirte and Benghazi on Facebook, “I say to them: hands off Libya”. 18 unidentified bodies found in Libya
Tripoli: The Libyan authorities have said that 18 unidentified bodies were discovered in the northern coastal city of Sirte. The 18 bodies were found in the Sabaa area of Sirte last week and transferred to a hospital in the city, the General Authority for Research and Identification of Missing Persons said in a statement on Sunday. Samples were collected from the bodies and taken to laboratories for analysis, the statement added. In October 2022, the Libyan authority announced the discovery of 42 unidentified bodies in mass graves inside a school yard in Sirte, Xinhua news agency reported. Libya has been suffering violence and insecurity since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi’s regime in 2011.

Libya has been approved to join IEF, Oil Ministry announces
This came based on the recommendation of the Oil Ministry and the approval of the Government of National Unity (GNU) under Resolution No. (976) of 2022 AD, to join IEF, the Ministry said. The Forum includes more than 90% of countries and organizations working in the production, consumption and marketing of oil and gas in the world, according to the Libyan Oil Ministry.

Media Advisor expects Libyan HoR Speaker to accept PC invitation for constitutional track talks
The Media Advisor to the Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), Fathi al-Marimi, confirmed that HoR had not yet responded to the Presidential Council’s (PC) invitation for a meeting for talks on the constitutional track, due to the travel of Speaker Aqila Saleh abroad. Al-Marimi expected HoR Speaker to accept participation in the meeting called for by the Presidential Council, scheduled for January 11 in Ghadames, Western Libya. The Media Advisor affirmed HoR’s determination to proceed with discussions on the constitutional track with the High Council of State (HCS) through the two concerned committees, pointing out that their work would be referred directly to the High National Elections Commission (HNEC). The Presidential Council had officially invited both HoR and HCS Speakers to a meeting in Ghadames on January 11, while no official comment was issued by both speakers.

Algerian President: Transfer of weapons into Sahel region caused by Libya’s instability
The Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, said that the deterioration of the situation in Libya is a main cause for the instability in the African Sahel region. In an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro, on Friday, Tebboune said the deterioration of the situation in neighboring Libya “has helped the transfer of heavy weapons into the African Sahel region.”Last week, Tebboune stressed the need for “a high national spirit, in order to resolve the Libyan conflict and to set aside differences and personal interests.”In televised statements, Tebboune said, “without a very high patriotic spirit, it is difficult to resolve the Libyan conflict.” He noted that Algeria went through a similar crisis in the 1990’s when it suffered from terrorism, but it “witnessed a prevailing national interest to cross the impasse.”
