The Libyan Presidential Council (LPC) Deputy Head, Abdullah al-Lafi, said the issue of border demarcation between countries is not subject to unilateral action. Demarcation of borders is regulated by stable rules in international law, and is governed by recognized mechanisms that preserve the rights of all countries and prevent any encroachments outside those rules and mechanisms, Al-Lafi added, during his meeting with the head of the Land and Maritime Borders Committee, Muhammad al-Hariri, and the Chief of Staff of the Naval Forces, Major General Nouruddin al-Buni. LPC Deputy Head stated that the Libyan state, like all member states of the African Union, is committed to the former Organization of African Unity’s decision to respect the borders inherited from the colonial period. Egypt had recently announced the demarcation of the western maritime borders with Libya unilaterally, which was rejected by several parties in Libya.
