The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity, Najla Al-Manqoush has stated that her meeting with the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns witnessed fruitful exchanges about cooperating on issues of security, paving the way towards stability and elections in Libya. “Looking forward to translating these excellent initiatives into concrete steps soon”, Al- Manqoush tweeted. The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, has met with the CIA Director, William Burns, the Chargé d'Affairs of the US embassy and his accompanying delegation in Tripoli, in the presence of Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Manqoush and the head of the General Intelligence Apparatus, Hussein Al-Ayeb.

Libya deports 85 Chadians to their country
The Embassy of Chad in Libya has announced the deportation of 85 Chadian citizens from Libya, by the Anti-Migration Agency, after they had served their sentences. These Chadian citizens were identified by the embassy, which issued travel documents to facilitate their return to their country, according to a statement issued by the embassy. The Chadian embassy thanked the concerned Libyan authorities for their cooperation and mutual coordination to facilitate the safe return of citizens to their country.

Email with allegations about accused sent to judge presiding Sion Grech murder trial
The judge presiding over the trial of two men accused of the murder of Sion Grech, a 20-year-old transgender sex-worker in Marsa, 18-years-ago, announced this morning that he had received an email making claims about the case and allegations about one of the accused men. The email is understood to have been sent from a government email address, by an individual who did not conceal their identity. Addressing the trial this morning, Mr. Justice Aaron Bugeja solemnly declared that he does not communicate with any party, in any way. Ismael Habesh from Libya and Faical Mahouachi from Tunisia are currently on trial, accused of stabbing Grech to death in a Marsa field. A scene of crime officer who had documented the murder scene also testified earlier today.

Libya: CIA Director William Burns meets with leaders of Libya’s rival governments
CIA chief William Burns has met Libya’s interim premier weeks after the authorities handed the United States a suspect in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, the Tripoli-based government said Thursday. “Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibeh hosted the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, William Burns” at the cabinet office in Tripoli, along with Foreign Minister Najla al-Mangoush and Libyan intelligence chief Hussein al-Ayeb, Dbeibah’s government said in a Facebook post. The move sparked a public backlash against the Tripoli-based government, which is challenged by a rival government in the war-torn country’s east. Libyan media have reported that Burns would also visit the headquarters of eastern military strongman Khalifa Haftar, Dbeibah’s key rival. Burns, CIA chief since March 2021, visited Libya in 2014 as under-secretary of state for the Middle East.

Health Ministry plans to run medical convoys as part of national program
The Health Ministry is reviewing a plan for launching a national program to conduct medical convoys in remote areas and attract visiting doctors. A statement by the Health Ministry said the program is part of the ministry's efforts to support medical services to achieve an efficient performance. The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Hospital Affairs, Saad El-Din Abdel-Wakeel has convened a meeting with the Director of the Apparatus for Support and Development of Clinical Services, Ahmed Mleitan to discuss the issue. The two sides agreed to form a joint technical team, in order to implement the program and provide medical equipment for hospitals, besides supporting the medical committees across the country.

ZURICH, Switzerland - President Gianni Infantino was present for inauguration of the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers and met with the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune; Mr Infantino also held meetings with the Presidents of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Algerian Football Association (FAF); Algeria set to host the African Nations Championship from 13 January to 4 February 2023. FIFA President Gianni Infantino has completed a day of engagements in Algeria, which included the inauguration ceremony to officially open the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers – and a meeting with the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune. “There are important developments taking place across Algerian football, not least the opening of the Nelson Mandela Stadium, which is a fitting honour in memory of a great leader, and also a wonderful venue to host matches in the upcoming African Nations Championship,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. President Infantino later met with President Tebboune at the stadium, and held fruitful discussions on a range of matters. As well as attending the ceremony, President Infantino also met with Patrice Motsepe, CAF President and a FIFA Vice-President, and Djahid Zefizef, the President of the Algerian Football Association (FAF) to discuss a wide range of football development matters across the African continent, and the ongoing drive to strengthen football infrastructure throughout Algeria.
