BMC to generate biomass briquettes from green waste
BHUBANESWAR: In a push to ‘waste to wealth’ drive of the government, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has planned to produce biomass briquettes by processing the green waste generated in the capital city separately. The civic body also plans to set up a processing unit for flower waste generated in temples to be used in marketable products. As per the proposals, BMC will set up a processing plant where chipper, grinder, hammer and dryer will be used to convert green garbage such as grass clippings, shrub, wood etc., to biomass briquettes. An official said currently BMC has engaged eight vehicles to lift green garbage from different roads in the city. Similarly, one light commercial vehicle each has also been provided to 44 wards to collect green garbage separately.

Most of those repatriated had been working in call centres, collecting details of potential victims from social media and enticing them into investing in fraudulent schemes. They were repatriated with the assistance of Indian embassies in the three countries, a source said. But, in recent years, textbooks have also become a point of contestation and censure whether it be history, politics or social moralities. The uproar at Sindhi High School over the inclusion of actor Tamannaah Bhatia – who, incidentally, was in Bengaluru recently – in a Class 7 textbook has sparked a debate that extends beyond the pages. ‘What elicits this kind of censure?’Not having an issue with a male actor but having an issue with Tamannaah Bhatia is part of a larger bias that exists in our society. But having said that, textbook committees should be careful while creating the content and try to not make it political, controversial or hateful.

Download ETEnergyworld App Get Realtime updatesSave your favourite articles Scan to download AppThe World Bank on June 29, approved USD 1.5 billion in financing to accelerate India's development of low-carbon energy "The financing will help India promote low-carbon energy by scaling up renewable energy , developing green hydrogen , and stimulating climate finance for low-carbon energy investments.," the World Bank said in a blog post.Apart from this second phase of financing stimulus, last year in June 2023, the World Bank approved the USD 1.5 billion First Low-Carbon Energy Programmatic Development Policy Operation, which supported the waiver of transmission charges for renewable energy in green hydrogen projects.With this financing, efforts will be made to enhance the market capability for green hydrogen. The emphasis will also be given to scaling up renewable energy and stimulating finance for low-carbon energy investments, as per the statement.The second Low-Carbon Energy Programmatic Development Policy Operation will support reforms to boost the production of green hydrogen and electrolyzers, critical technology needed for green hydrogen production. The reforms supported by the operation are expected to result in the production of at least 450,000 metric tons of green hydrogen and 1,500 MW of electrolyzers per year from the financial year 2025-26 onwards.In addition, it will also help to increase renewable energy capacity and support reductions in emissions by 50 million tons per year. The operation will also support steps to further develop a national carbon credit market.
