Agyapong, who is also Chairman of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee gave the date of their visit as coming Monday (July 12). On the substantive issue, the military high command has taken action on the issue with punitive measures already handed down to officers involved in the incident. Nitiwul said: “except the duty officer, all personnel who were on duty on the day of the incident have been charged, tried and appropriately punished”. About the duty officer in question, Nitiwul explained: “The trial of the duty officer, who is a Lieutenant, will, however, commence on or before Wednesday 14th July 2021.”“All the above trials and punishments are without prejudice to the outcome of the subjects under various forms of investigation,” he added.

In a Facebook post, Dr Steve Manteaw said that the persons and institutions responsible for the above-stated decisions do not have the interest of the country at heart. “Those who recommended, and those who approved payment to the spouses of our leaders have no conscience, and no regard for the Ghanaian,” he posted on Facebook. The rationalization of the payment of gratuities to the first and second ladies has irked some persons who have sought refuge in the Supreme Court to prevent the government from making the payment. Abronye in his suit argued that the move by government is not enshrined in law and should be outrightly dismissed by the court. He is praying the apex court to declare as illegal, the decision by the committee and prevent government from effecting payment to the intended beneficiaries. Two members of Parliament on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress and one Fredrick Nii Commey have also filed a suit at the Supreme Court challenging the payment. A further declaration that the recommendations of the Committee, to the extent that it pertains to the 1st and 2nd Ladies of the Republic of Ghana, are null, void and of no effect. Information Minister, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah confirmed a new arrangement for spouses of the president and vice president to officially enjoy salaries from the government of Ghana. According to him, a recommendation by an emolument committee which was approved by the seventh parliament was adopted by government. He further disclosed that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2019 established a committee chaired by Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu to make proposals on allowances paid to wives of the president and his vice. "Next time feature it in your manifesto”, she wrote in a Tweet. If approved, each MP will receive an amount of US$100,000 for the purchase of a vehicle which will be sourced from the National Investment Bank.

The BoG has given an assurance that it will use all its resources and tools to guard the cedi against the dwindling pressure it is being faced with. According to a report sighted by GhanaWeb on Myjoyonline, the BoG’s plan is timely and prompt as the Ghana cedis is facing some strong depreciation pressure from other international currencies. “We are also monitoring happenings in the global market and will take the necessary actions needed,” the BoG said. The Central Bank also said it is coming up with this intervention to help the cedis find it foot to trade and compete with other currencies. Meanwhile, the depreciation of the cedis has been attributed to the surge in corporate demand by businesses that are trying to pay dividends to shareholders, outside the country.

Furthermore, total active and retired staff population had increased to over 3,000, with a dependent population of about 10,000, which was projected to exceed 15,000 in the coming years." He continued, “To address this problem, Management of the Bank in 2012, mandated the then General Services Department and the Medical Department to develop a Needs Assessment to form the basis for the development of a hospital for the Bank. The hospital which is located at East Cantonments will serve as a commercial entity operating as a general hospital, to provide world-class OPD services, diagnostic services, and medical urology.
