Mensah, widely regarded as the best goalkeeper in Africa at the time of his death, was laid to rest after he was fatally stabbed at the age of 32 in November 1971. In the black-and-white video shared online, his casket was solemnly carried by pallbearers through thick crowds of mourners. He was best known for his exploits with Asante Kotoko, with whom he won the African Clubs Cup in 1970.
