The Tabots are among artefacts seized by the British in the 1868 Battle of Magdala. The British Museum Act restricts their ability to hand back almost every item in the collection, but not the Tabots. “The Tabots can be released now without a change in the Act, simply by the trustees recognising they are unfit to be retained.

What are the ministry’s perceptions of the news circulating about Ethiopia’s plans to build other dams on the Nile River, assuming this [news] is valid? What is the impact of the [GERD] filling on Egyptian water security? The downstream nations fear possible blows to water facilities, agricultural land, and overall availability of Nile water. Negotiations over the dam between Egypt, Ethiopia, and Sudan have stalled for years, with the three parties ultimately failing to reach any agreements.

Addis Abeba – A global network of over 300 human rights organizations from 105 countries is urgently calling on the government of Ethiopia to end the current internet shutdown in the Amhara region. The KeepItOn coalition, a global movement to end internet shutdowns, believes that internet shutdowns during conflicts put people’s lives at risk and prevent access to vital information. Following these escalations, reports of disruptions in flight operations to various cities in the region and internet shutdowns have also emerged. The UN Human Rights Office also reported at least 183 deaths in clashes since July, as well as mass arrests of over 1,000 individuals. This is not the first time Ethiopian authorities have resorted to internet shutdowns during times of conflict and crisis.
