Business News of Friday, 14 October 2016Source: businessincameroon.comGovernment to provide the CJARC with a multimedia centerMinette Libom Li Likeng, Minister of Posts and TelecomsMinette Libom Li Likeng, Minister of Posts and Telecoms in Cameroon, announced on 11 October 2016 in Yaoundé, the capital of the country, that in 2017, the government will provide the Rehabilitated Blind Youth Club of Cameroon (CJARC) with a multimedia centre, in order to connect these visually-impaired people to ICT. “This structure, we are certain, will enable young visually-impaired people to have access to the information society which will change the 21st century in a sustainable way (...) We must transform the world and not leave anyone on the fringes, for the sustainable development of our country”, assures Minister Libom Li Likeng. The announced multimedia centre, we learned, will be supplied with equipment adapted to the specific needs of the users. Over a one year period, the training of the monitors of this structure, as well as its operating charges, will be fully paid by the State. This Cameroonian government member was thus talking during the celebration of the International White Cane Day, in Cameroon with the theme: “White Cane: Tool for inclusion, access to employment, ICT to reach Sustainable Development Objectives (SDO)”.

Indeed, according to estimates from the World Bank group, sub-Saharan Africa and Southern Asia could currently post a GDP per inhabitant superior to 9 and 10% respectively, if today’s adults had not suffered from stunted growth in their childhood. To prevent this situation from occurring again, particularly in Cameroon, “the government took the firm commitment of investing in early childhood to continue its economic and social development”, a communiqué from the World Bank highlights. Specifically, «we also hope to reduce the rate of chronic malnutrition in children under 5 years from 32% to 25% by 2019. To reach these goals, we are pursuing a multi-sectorial approach of collaboration in our education, health and social safety net programs, with a particular emphasis on the North and East of the country”, we can read in Cameroon’s declaration at this conference.

During the official season opening ceremony, which took place on 10 October 2016, the administrative authorities reminded the fishermen of the necessity of using the regulatory material and equipment, in order to ensure a sustainable management of the fishing resources in this lake mainly used to irrigate Semry’s rice paddies. In order for Maga fishermen to increase their production, which officially peaks at approximately 2,000 tons every year, the mayor of this town wished for the government to work toward implementing the local fingerling production station.

This workshop is the result of the partnership between this Cameroonian training school and the local Public Agricultural Education and Training School (EPLEFA) of Nanterre, France. According to Antoine Mbida, Director of CRA, in addition to the students of this training centre, the new practical workshop will be open to other students from Cameroon and beyond, as well as groups of producers desirous to be trained in chocolate production techniques. The chocolate thus produced at the CRA’s workshop in Ebolowa will be locally sold. But, the management of the training centre have the ambition of turning it into a national brand susceptible of gaining external markets.

The information was revealed during a recent meeting between the management of Expertise France and that of the Conseil d’Appui à la Réalisation des contrats de Partenariat (Carpa - Board of Support for the Implementation of Partnership Agreements) in Cameroon. “This is a strategy which should be based on creating a certain number of skills for the Carpa experts, but also, experts from upstream Ministries in charge of handing their investment projects over to us. This is a strategy which should also put an emphasis on processing projects, as well as the development of assessment tools”, explains Dieudonné Bondoma Yokono, President of Carpa. According to the management of Carpa, the implementation of this National PPP Development Strategy will above all help in boosting this mechanism for financing and executing major projects, in an environment where access to funding is difficult

The Mayor further insisted that inhabitants along the risk zone should relocate and that no cultivation nor construction works will be permitted henceforth around the locality. This to him is the first preemptive measure so to avoid any loss of lives in the future.

He further revealed that the government has already made available a sum of 800million FCFA to rehabilitate the Bamenda wum stretch of road which has for long been in a deplorable state. Because of the bad nature of the road the Governor together with his entourage drove for three hours from Bamenda on the said highway which is normally a 36 miles journey. For the mean time, people longing to get to Wum through vehicles only have to go through the Bafoumen- Foundong stretch of road while fine-tune a temporal solution.

A short time earlier, the woman’s husband, also from Cameroon, who is a graduate of Limerick Institute of Technology, was kicked and abused near the house. The incidents were recalled at Limerick Circuit Court by Gennin Awoudou and his wife Yvette Baga, who had moved to Limerick from Cameroon so that Mr Awoudou could pursue studies at LIT. Ms Baga was at home with their two children, aged two and five, on the evening of April 14, 2015. As he walked away towards his house, the man followed and kicked him in the bottom. Garda Samantha O’Dowd, an off-duty garda based at Templemore College, recalled driving in Kileely that evening at around 8.30pm.

The Brigade Commander of the Gendarmerie for the East Region Paul Nseng Aka’a recounts that Narcisse Alex came across four illegal traffickers of elephant tusks who surrendered their bag and ran for their dear lives. Alex Narcisse then picked up the bag and instead of reporting the case immediately to the Gendarmerie, he took the bag to his house. The following day he told the Gendarmerie Forces that he had impounded four elephant Tusks from some illegal traffickers instead of eleven. After a thorough search by the Forces of the Gendarmerie the rest of the Tusks were found in his keeping.
