According to Charès Nghoguo, MD of Express Union, this partnership with the world leader in digital money transfer, “is mainly meant to create an additional link between Cameroonian migrants and their loved ones who remained in the country, between local economic operators and those abroad”. Express Union is the 2nd company partnering with WorldRemit in Cameroon in less than a month, after the local subsidiary of the Ivorian banking group Banque Atlantique in September.

The young girls between 19 to 24 years old came all the way from Nigeria after being promised travel visas to Moscow –Russia. One of the girls identified as Ewangi Patriarch, 19, recounted that Eyambe Miliki Sona directed them to Cameroon by phone. The Divisional Officer for Muyuka Sub Division, Tambe Thomas Tabot and his collaborators got intelligence from an informant and investigations zoomed on Eyambe Miliki Sona who was found in possession of fake documents. Eyambe Miliki Sona is presently in police custody while the four girls will be handed to the Nigerian Consulate in Buea for repatriation to Nigeria.

It is worthnoting that the 27 hectare car assembly factory has been set up in Bonaberi by the Indian Subsidiary, Cameroon Automobile Industry Company, CAIC. This especially as it is the plant from which Nestlé supplies all the CEMAC countries which are Gabon, Congo, Chad, the Central African Republic and Equatorial Guinea. As a reminder, according to official information, the Maggi cube, a cooking stock much sought after by households, represents on its own 90% of the Douala plant’s production, through which Nestlé Cameroun makes a monthly turnover of FCfa 5 billion in the CEMAC zone. It is also possible that the extension of the Douala plant could lead to an increase in production volumes for the latter two brands.

This cargo, we officially learned, was at the centre of a traffic, which consisted in siphoning a domestic gas cylinder of the Gamgaz brand, to transfer its content to two or three cylinders of the SCTM brand. This is the 2nd domestic gas siphoning unit dismantled in the Cameroonian capital in less than a month. Indeed, this past 21 September, the same team had already caught Fidèle Fonkou, whose gas store was turned into a siphoning centre under the cover of night. In addition to incurring financial losses for housewives, who often pay FCfa 6,500 per full domestic gas cylinder of 12.5 kg, siphoning is a dangerous activities for the neighbourhood and the operators themselves, due to the volatility.
