Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated and laid the foundation stones of 29 development projects worth about Tk 25 billion in Khulna. The air was filled with slogans chanted by activists of the Awami League who came to attend a rally at the Khulna Circuit House, where Hasina launched the projects on Monday. She inaugurated 24 development projects worth about Tk 23.7 billion and laid the foundation stones of five development projects worth over Tk 2.2 billion in the district. Party loyalists started flocking to the venue in Khulna on buses, trains, and trucks on Monday morning. Sporting colourful attire, they came marching in while playing different musical instruments.

Several burn victims of recent political violence have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka. Doctors said their injuries are severe due to petrol bomb attacks, and some of them require surgery. On Oct 28, political tensions escalated around the anti-government rally organised by the BNP. Similar to 2013, criminals began to conduct arson and petrol bomb attacks on vehicles. According to the fire service, about 138 vehicles were set on fire from Oct 28 until Sunday evening.

Police have recovered the dead bodies of two sisters from a house in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh. Both of the bodies were bloodied and had wounds made by sharp weapons, reports bdnews24.com. The bodies were recovered from the third floor of a five-storey building in Kalunagar, said Ahad Ali, chief of the Hazaribagh Police Station. Jesmin Akter, 44, was the older sister and Nasrin Akter, 30, was the younger. He said both sisters were unmarried and suffered from mental ailments, according to the family.

"And if I saw the (World Cup) trophy in his hands, then I must be the richest person in the world." Rohit, averaging nearly 56 at the World Cup, is the only man to have scored three double-centuries in one-day internationals. Bangladesh cricketers have returned home after their depressing performance in the World Cup in India. They made a quick getaway from the airport for home without facing the media. Fast-bowling Coach Allan Donald, who decided not to extend his contract, is going back home to South Africa. Kali Puja, worshipping the Goddess of strength, wisdom and enlightenment, is celebrated at the night of Amavasya of the Bangla month of Kartik (October or November). Talking to BSS, Ramna Kali Mandir managing committee president Utpal Saha said Kali puja celebration began with lighting up earthen lamps and candles on the temple premises this evening. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid inaugurated the Kali puja celebration at Siddheshwari Kali Mata temple with lighting up lamps on the temple premises. This time frame of 15 days from Kojagori Laxmi Puja to Kali Puja is considered inauspicious, as it is the waning phase of the moon.

The three Bangladeshis who died in a houseboat fire in the Dal Lake of Kashmir had travelled to India for medical treatment. They are Onindyo Koushal, executive engineer of the Public Works Department in Rangamati, Sub-Divisional Engineer Emon Dasgupta and contractor Md Mainuddin – all from Chattogram. Mainuddin and Emon were natives of Raozan, while Onindyo was from Mirsarai. Asif Mohiuddin, a deputy commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Unit and close relative of Mainuddin, said the three travelled to India on Nov 3 for treatment. They later went to Kashmir to visit the picturesque Dal Lake.
