Across a full day of fencing, the Red faced a wide variety of opponents, highlighted by a marquee matchup against No. “A lot of it was just the energy that we gave each other, that was definitely the most hyped we were throughout the entire day,” Bradford said. Cornell got strong performances from a wide variety of fencers, both experienced and new to college fencing.

The announcement of the timeline of parliamentary polls has escalated fears of more violent confrontations in Bangladesh’s politics. With the 12th general election set for Jan 7, 2024, the ruling Awami League has taken out processions to welcome the schedule amid reports of a rise in violence in different parts of the country during the BNP’s antigovernment blockade. Ideological differences are common in multi-party politics, but if they lead to conflicts and violence, it can harm the voting process, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal said while announcing the schedule on Wednesday.

Some of my colleagues and even my own students are surprised when I say that I learn from my students every day. With greater emphases on diversity and inclusion, including more first-generation college students, international students, LGBTQ+ and non-binary students,as well as BIPOC students, I am learning daily from the varied lives of our students. Much of what I know about what is going on at Cornell I learn from my students, including from the Cornell Daily Sun which I have always urged my colleagues to read. After my students graduate from Cornell, I keep in touch with them and learn about the worlds in which they are living. Students learn how to learn, and the most important thing we do is teach them how to learn, including how to speak articulately, write precisely, and think critically.

Ever since surviving my first winter here in Ithaca, I have learned to recognise the song of the robin (Turdus migratorius) as a welcome signal of spring. A scientist and member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Dr. Kimmerer was introduced by faithkeeper and Cornell Research Associate Stephen Henhawk. Dr. Kimmerer shared an image of the beaded wampum belt used to ratify the agreement, which features the motif of a dish with one spoon. But Kimmerer makes sure to characterize even this as a short-term, transitive approach, which is not the true end-goal of her plan for Indigenous land care. The Cornell Daily Sun is interested in publishing a broad and diverse set of content from the Cornell and greater Ithaca community.

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal urged all parties to eschew violence amid fears of violent confrontation surrounding the next general election, of which the schedule he announced on Wednesday. He emphasised dialogue to reach a consensus in his address to the nation broadcast live on TV and radio in the evening amid the opposition BNP’s blockade designed to mount pressure on the Sheikh Hasina government to resign, a demand dismissed by the ruling Awami League. As the BNP has threatened a boycott if a caretaker administration is not installed, the CEC said that the Election Commission always encourages every party to freely participate and compete in the polls. In his speech, the CEC mentioned their unsuccessful attempts to engage certain political parties, such as the BNP, in discussions. "We repeatedly invited all registered, uninterested political parties, but they refused to join," he said.

Law-enforcement agencies in Bangladesh are prepared to thwart any violent protest from BNP over the election schedule for the 12th general election, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan says. The minister shrugged off talk of civil war in the country. “A civil war occurs only when the odds are 50-50,” he said. After setting the date for Biswa Ijtema in a meeting with Islamic scholars at the Secretariat on Wednesday, he said: “Our security forces are sufficiently prepared. Our security forces are very skilled and can tackle any challenge.”
