DHAKA, Nov 20, 2023 (BSS)-The miscreants have been set fire on 18 vehicles across the country including the capital during the 48 hours hartal enforced by BNP-Jammat since Sunday. A total of nine buses, one covered van, six trucks, one CNG driven auto-rickshaw and three coaches of a train have been torched during the time. A total of 144 fire fighters and 29 units of the fire service department were involved to disperse the fire. Fire service sources added, the miscreants have set fire on a passenger bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) at 2.35pm today at Mirpur section-10. Five people including two fire-fighters, as well, sustained burn injuries in the fire incidents.

The owner of a bus, who also drives the vehicle, fainted after seeing it on fire in Gazipur in a suspected arson attack during the BNP’s 48-hour hartal, or shutdown. Delwar Hossain Delu was hospitalised after the incident on Sunday afternoon near Shaheed Barkat Sarani pond where he parked the bus early in the morning after a trip. His cousin Sagar Hossain said Delu sold 0.05 hectares of land and borrowed money to buy the vehicle for Tk 2.8 million. He has to pay Tk 62,000 in monthly instalments. He used to drive the Turag Paribahan bus on Gazipur-Sherpur route

The number of dengue cases recorded in Bangladesh so far in 2023 has crossed the 300,000 mark amid the worst outbreak of the disease. The Directorate General of Health Services reported 1,291 new cases of dengue fever in the latest daily count, taking the tally of infections this year to 301,255. The death toll increased to 1,549, with six fatalities in the 24 hours to Sunday morning.

Two technocrat ministers and one state minister have resigned as part of a process to reconstitute the cabinet ahead of the parliamentary elections. One of the prime minister’s advisers also submitted his resignation letter to Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain on Sunday. After the last shake up of the cabinet, there were 25 ministers, 19 state ministers and four deputy ministers in the Sheikh Hasina-led government. Mashiur Rahman, the prime minister’s economic affairs adviser, said the ministers and advisers who are not MPs were asked to resign. The government, led by Hasina, had let go of the ministers and state ministers and appointed six new officials.

Put into bat, India rode battling half-centuries by KL Rahul and Virat Kohli to post a below-par 240 all out in exactly 50 overs at a packed Narendra Modi Stadium. DHAKA, Nov 19, 2023 (BSS) - The ruling Awami League (AL) has sold a total of 2,286 nomination forms in two days after beginning of the nomination paper selling for the 12th parliamentary elections. On the second day, the AL sold 1,212 nomination forms while it was 1,074 on the first day, AL Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua told journalists after the sale of nomination forms on the second day at the AL's Bangabandhu Avenue central office here this afternoon. "Among them, 1,180 people directly collected the nomination forms from booths, while 32 aspirant candidates collected the forms online," Biplab Barua said. We expect that more or same number of nomination forms will be sold by next two days, compared to the last two days." Earlier, on Saturday morning, the sale of AL nomination forms officially started at the party's central office.
