FILMS IN THE DRAMA CATEGORYLast year, the Bangla Academy Awards policy was amended for the inclusion of literary films or aesthetically pleasing films in the drama category. And to associate it with drama is absolutely wrong.”The literary awards were introduced by the Bangla Academy in 1960. Literary luminaries such as Nurul Momen, Munier Choudhury, Anis Chowdhury, Mamunur Rashid, Maloy Bhowmick have received the Bangla Academy Award. This year, the Academy expanded the drama category to encompass Jatra, Pala, and literary art films or aesthetic films, leading to Mrittika Chakma and Masud Pathik receiving the Bangla Academy Literary Award. “I will talk about this issue if I ever get a chance to speak to the Bangla Academy about this,” he said.

The strong growth projection for India came even as the report projected that growth in the wider region of "developing Asia" will decline to 5.2% in 2024 and 4.8% in 2025 from an estimated 5.4% in 2023. "Growth in India is projected to remain strong at 6.5% in both 2024 and 2025, with an upgrade from October of 0.2 percentage point for both years, reflecting resilience in domestic demand," the IMF report said. The IMF's projection of 6.5% is lower than the Indian federal government's expectation of 7% growth in the economy in the next fiscal year, as stated in its latest economic review released on Monday. The growth estimates come days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government presents its last budget prior to parliamentary elections, in which he will seek a third term.

China has proposed the use of its currency yuan in place of the US dollar for loans to Bangladesh, citing unstable exchange rates of the greenback. Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen revealed the proposal, which he said had earlier been sent to the government, when a journalist asked for his comment on a fall in the rate of clearing loan tranches this fiscal year after the envoy’s meeting with Planning Minister Abdus Salam on Tuesday. The financial and monetary policy of the US has caused unstable dollar rates worldwide, creating problems for China and other countries in transactions in the American currency, Yao said. China is eager to solve the problem and transactions in the Chinese currency can be the solution, per the ambassador.
