This progress represents the first substantive step toward achieving the goals of the “Electrify Ithaca” program, a primary component of the Ithaca Green New Deal. Bill Fry, a member of the Board of Trustees for Ithaca First Baptist Church, expressed optimism regarding the economic breaks that these incentives provide. Katie Sims ’20, a leader in the Ithaca Tenants Union, voiced similar concerns. Although the IGND is said to be committed to equitable environmental change, Sims doesn’t see this as a reality. Evans acknowledges the fears of renters but added that environmental improvement is not totally separate from the wants of renters.

"The government has a plan to produce FMD vaccine for the livestock locally instead of importing", said the minister while responding to a supplementary question raised by treasury bench lawmaker Awlad Hossain of Dhaka-4 during the question-answer session at the Jatiya Sangsad here. To this end, the minister said this type of vaccine would be produced locally soon and a decision has been taken to build a research centre for manufacturing the vaccine. "The FMD is a major challenge for the livestock sector in Bangladesh," he said, adding that at present, the country meets the demand for vaccines mostly by import. The vaccine is expected to help boost the country's livestock sector as it incurs a loss of $125 million per year due to the disease. He said the price per unit vaccine will be halved when they start manufacturing those in the country.

Two people to be publicly executed in eastern AfghanistanGHAZNI, Afghanistan, Feb 22, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - Two people were due to be publicly executed in a football stadium in eastern Afghanistan on Thursday, provincial officials said, in the third and fourth death penalties carried out since the Taliban returned to power. Although public executions were common during the Taliban's first rule from 1996 to 2001, they have only carried out two others since surging back to power in August 2021. There have been regular public floggings for other crimes, however, including theft, adultery and alcohol consumption. Taliban Supreme Leader Hibatullah Akhundzada last year ordered judges to fully implement all aspects of sharia -- including qisas punishment. The last execution was carried out in June 2023, when a convicted murderer was shot dead in the grounds of a mosque in Laghman province in front of some 2,000 people.

WASHINGTON, Feb 22, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - US President Joe Biden, elected in 2020 largely thanks to young voters, on Wednesday announced he was extending his student loan forgiveness program by canceling the loans of an additional 150,000 Americans. "I'm happy to have been able to forgive these loans because when we relieve Americans of their student debt, they're free to chase their dreams," Biden added. Under the new program, borrowers who have been repaying their student loans for 10 years and who borrowed $12,000 or less, will see their remaining debt cancelled. He added: "President Biden knows that canceling student debt is an important issue for young people across our country and that's why he's fighting to deliver on his promise of relief." An opinion poll published Wednesday by Quinnipiac University has Biden and Trump running neck and neck with young Americans, with 47 percent of voters aged 18-34 planning to vote for Biden and 45 percent for Trump.
