“But the one I actually spend a lot of time on is thinking about Bangladesh and the Rohingya refugees who were there, and the effects of instability in Burma and what it means for the region,” Lu said. The international community and the US, Lu said, were working together to find a solution to house these refugees until it’s safe enough for them to go back. Recently, India and Bangladesh’s foreign ministers stressed on the need to repatriate Rohingya refugees from Bangladesh to Myanmar. Bangladesh’s foreign minister Muhammad Hasan Mahmud “reiterated [his call for] India’s support in the early repatriation of Rohingya refugees.”Dhaka has said that it will not allow any more Rohingya refugees from Myanmar to enter the country as the large number of refugees were posing a security threat. Rohingyas have been facing persecution in Buddhist-majority Myanmar for decades and nearly a million of them are camped in the border district of Cox’s Bazar.

In a thrilling finale to the regular season, women’s hockey (21-6-1, 16-5-0 ECAC) shut down both Brown (11-14-3, 7-11-3 ECAC) and Yale (15-13-1, 12-9-1 ECAC) to claim its 16th Ivy League title. Cornell opened up the contest against Brown fast and furious, applying pressure on the Bears’ netminder Kaley Doyle. Freshman forward Mckenna Van Gelder broke the deadlock by slipping the puck past the Bulldogs’ goaltender Pia Dukaric. Moments later, the Red cracked a two-on-one break when freshman forward Karel Prefontaine found the back of the net thanks to Daniel’s precision playmaking. Her remarkable performance, bolstered by 35 saves, secured Cornell’s 16th Ivy League title in program history, further solidifying Bergmann’s stellar 16-5-1 record in goal this season.

THE HAGUE, Feb 19, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - The UN's top court will from Monday hold hearings on the legal consequences of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territories since 1967, with an unprecedented 52 countries expected to give evidence. In December 2022, the UN General Assembly asked the ICJ for a non-binding "advisory opinion" on the "legal consequences arising from the policies and practices of Israel in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem." While any ICJ opinion would be non-binding, it comes amid mounting international legal pressure on Israel over the war in Gaza sparked by the brutal October 7 Hamas attacks. Firstly, the court should examine the legal consequences of what the UN called "the ongoing violation by Israel of the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination". The UN later declared the occupation of Palestinian territory illegal.
