Former President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner returned to the City of Buenos Aires yesterday to celebrate the birth of her former friend and ally, late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez. Two days ago, the Macri administration also dismantled the Hugo Chávez room in the Patria Grande house in Buenos Aires. She hinted at Argentines being swayed by media conglomerates and other interested groups that don’t have the people’s best interest in mind. Cristina went on to say that, “remembering Hugo is remembering someone who helped us in tough times. Arroyo Salgado cleared Mallo after a third forensic analysis of a gun found in his possession confirmed that it did not match the projectiles found at the crime scene. However, the Buenos Aires Police Force and the defendant’s forensic team did not find a positive match: Arroyo Salgado has ordered for the PFA to be investigated. Judge Sandra Arroyo Salgado has ruled that there is no reason for Marcelo Mallo, a barra brava (hooligan) often linked to former Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández, to remain under arrest for the 2008 Double Homicide of Unicenter (after the shopping mall where the murders took place). “The judge asked for administrative sanctions against the forensic scientists to be evaluated because she considers that jail time for innocent people should not be dictated by bad practice,” said Damián Odetti, Ghiso’s lawyer. The crime known as the Double Homicide of Unicenter involved the deaths of two Colombians who belonged to the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), a paramilitary group linked to drug trafficking.

And then there’s the International Festival of Tango Queer that will take place this November in Buenos Aires. Mariana, one of the original founders of Tango Queer in Buenos Aires, demonstrates a series of steps from the middle of the floor. Tango Queer is not quite as I remember it. I sit down with a few friends I’ve made during class; we share a glass of wine, and talk about other venues for Tango Queer in the city. It also succeeds in making the 20:30 class feel a bit more intimate – as if dancing pressed up against another person weren’t intimate enough.

The study — conducted among 879 companies — reported that 69 percent of the companies surveyed tried to hire qualified personnel. According to a study conducted by the Argentine Integrated Provisional System (SIPA) — a government body that works under the Ministry of Labor — 52,516 jobs were eliminated from the private sector between December 2015 and May of this year. Another study conducted by Adecco consulting informed that, out of the 466 companies surveyed, 70 percent had the same type of trouble. It’s important to clarify the report didn’t cover informal, unregistered work (trabajo en negro), which is thought to represent a third of Argentina’s economy. The study reported that May marked the seventh consecutive month in which formal private employment decreased and, if we are to compare the situation with May of last year, there are 64,694 less jobs.

Human Rights Watch makes the following observation:During the administration of President Enrique Peña Nieto, Mexican security forces have been implicated in repeated, serious human rights violations—including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances and torture—in the course of efforts to combat organized crime. This all begs the question: Why, then, are so many human rights organizations and NGOs concerned about the government’s progress since the election? True, some of the many concerns cited by the United Nations’ Human Rights Committee on Argentina earlier this month outdate Macri’s presidency. Earlier this week, he met with Human Rights Watch Director José Vivanco. During his election campaign and now, with over six months of presidential selfies behind him, President Mauricio Macri has talked a good game on human rights.

LOCAL ‘SUPER LEAGUE.’ After all the bickering and political mayhem, it was finally decided that there would be no “Super League” this year in Argentina after all.
