Lula’s lawyers said in a statement that they had not been notified of the court’s decision but intended to prove his innocence. FIRST TIMEThis is the first time that former president Da Silva, universally known as Lula, will stand trial for charges related to the Petrobras scandal. On Thursday, Lula’s lawyers petitioned the United Nations Human Rights Committee on the grounds his rights had been violated in the corruption investigation. The Supreme Court took over the Lula investigation later in March after Moro released a wiretap of a conversation between Lula and then-President Dilma Rousseff. “Lula is a victim of abuse of power by a judge, with the complicity of prosecutors and the media,” the petition said.

Later, however, Francis spoke with passion about his Auschwitz visit to a crowd of young people gathered outside the archbishop’s residence where he was staying for the night. Saturday, July 30, 2016 Pope makes historic visit to AuschwitzPope Francis walks through a gate with the words “Arbeit macht frei” (Work sets you free) at the former Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz-Birkenau in Oswiecim, Poland. One man gave the pope a picture of himself surrounded by other emaciated inmates in a bunk, and asked Francis to sign it. The third pope to visit Auschwitz and the first not to have lived through the war in Europe, he entered the camp by foot, passing through iron gates under the infamous sign reading “Arbeit Macht Frei”, German for “Work Sets You Free”. He later spent a few minutes quietly greeting 11 Auschwitz survivors, kissing each of them on both cheeks.

This week’s meeting between President Macri and TV host Marcelo Tinelli felt like something important even if it is technically a rather silly photo-op. The Snapchat scene is not right or wrong per se, but its ultimate significance will depend on the future evolution of the Macri administration. They seek to undermine the President’s authority,” insisted De la Rúa this week, seemingly trying to lend the President a hand. It is not clear that even Macri knows exactly which of the two options will end up being true. #PoliticsAndThePress Saturday, July 30, 2016 A snap moment for MacriBy Marcelo J. “Our presence representing the PO stands against the murderer of students and teachers Peña Nieto and against Macri too. “It’s up to us to show solidarity with our colleague workers in Mexico who are being tortured and killed. While the escalation of human rights abuses in Mexico has been increasingly evident for a decade or more, it is the Iguala case that has dominated international attention and the same was true at Friday’s protest. Teachers such as Ezequiel Amarilla, 36, attended in support of the thousands of teachers currently demonstrating in the face of repression in Mexico against Peña Nieto’s latest education reforms. Many of those demonstrating before the Pink House yesterday, like Adriana Garza, 22, were students, and determined to show their solidarity with the 43 missing students “disappeared” from Iguala in 2014 with what human rights organizations have dubbed as the complicity of the Mexican security forces.

The tax floor of 30,000 is applicable to families with two children, with singles facing lower thresholds on income tax. Following claims by opposition leaders, tax experts have said the tax brackets have to be updated in order for the tax to make sense. ‘Only next year’ Saturday, July 30, 2016 Cabinet chief says income tax changes will have to waitThe increase in the income tax floor will not be followed this year by a push to modify the tax brackets, which have not been updated since 2000, Cabinet Chief Marcos Peña said yesterday, noting the change would only be implemented in 2017 following a debate in Congress. As such, singles without children will start paying income tax from 22,656 pesos onward. “The government made a big effort on income tax this year and those who paid a lot are now paying much less.

“Sarquís signed his name in agreement with [Buenos Aires] municipalities for the correct use of plan-protection products.”A 2012 Buenos Aires Province Supreme Court ruling prohibited all fumigation with 1,000 meters of residents’ homes. Buenos Aires Province is part of the Las Pampas region along with the provinces of Córdoba, Santa Fe and La Pampa. A new agrochemical bill that would allow pesticides to be fumigated as close as 10 meters from homes in the province of Buenos Aires has been passed by the provincial Senate. These class III and IV (“slightly dangerous” or “normally harmless”) pesticides include glyphosate, an agrochemical that has already caused outrage in Argentina. Though the bill still pends a Lower House vote and Buenos Aires Province Governor María Eugenia Vidal’s signature, a number of organizations have denounced the bill as unconstitutional due to the potentially harmful effects the pesticides can have on human health.

But judging from an interview between Clarín and Maximiliano Corach, the head of Buenos Aires Presente (BAP) — the Buenos Aires City Government body in charge of helping the capital’s homeless — this is way too hasty of an assumption. He answers “850,” to which Clarín counters that many other organizations would argue for much higher numbers. The interview starts off with a bang when Clarín asks Corach what the numbers are regarding the amount of people living in the streets. You would think that the head of a major organization dedicated to improving the lives of the homeless would know a couple things about the service his or her organization provides. CLARÍN: “How do people prove that they live in the street?”CORACH: “Their ID will have the address.”CLARÍN: “Many are undocumented.”CORACH: “They need documents.”Ok. Well.

Parlasur deputies are set to discuss whether to accept López’s resignation at their next session on August 12. José López, the former Kirchnerite Public Works Secretary discovered trying to hide roughly US $9 million in a convent back in June, today formally resigned from his post as a deputy in Parlasur, the Mercosur trade bloc parliament. “On August 12 we will say the resignation is irrelevant and doesn’t exempt him [López] from the impeachment process, which has already been initiated. After the José López scandal, as it is now known as, broke out, López was kicked out of the Victory Front (FpV) caucus — by caucus we mean a group of lawmakers who vote along the same lines — in Parlasur. Regardless of the outcome — which seems pretty obvious — López will be removed from Parlasur one way or another.

All of these accusations led to the agreement that Antofagasta Minerals will make the proper arrangements to remove what needs to be taken out. So what exactly are the details in this new chapter in the epic love hate story between Argentina and Chile? A test done by URS AECOM also concluded that there are 470 toxins that will be released into the environment, and that Antofagasta Minerals should have created a containing material. Let’s take a look:According to Infobae, in 2004, the Chilean government gave Antofagasta Minerals the go ahead to install the Cerro Amarillo dump to deposit waste materials from the Los Pelambres mining deposit. The ties between Chilean Mining Minister Aurora Williams and Antofagasta Minerals are also clearly and awkwardly apparent: Williams was once the manager of administration and finance for Antofagasta Minerals, which is controlled by Chilean conglomerate, the Luksic Group.
