The recent Vietnam International Technology Festival BUIDL 2023 held in HCMC attracted the attention of over 30 worldwide leading startups on blockchain technology in order to seek investment opportunities for Web 3.0 in Vietnam. It includes various stamp designs featuring President Ho Chi Minh issued by Vietnam and other countries, as well as envelopes and letters from the early 20th century. Additionally, there are postcards on cities around the world where President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked in, or traveled through, as well as stamps depicting the portrait of President Ho Chi Minh issued by the Postal Service. Through this endeavor, he wishes to contribute to the campaign on studying and following President Ho Chi Minh's thought, morals and lifestyle. The event attracted experts in law and the East Sea from Russia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and India.

Novaland to focus on sustainable development
HCM CITY — Sustainable development will be the foundation for restructuring and orienting its businesses, Novaland Investment Group Corporation told shareholders at its annual general meeting on Thursday. It would focus on the three pillars of environment - society – governance to ensure sustainability and harmonise the benefits of customers, shareholders, investors, and the community. For 2023 it targeted revenues of VNĐ9.5 trillion (US$405 million) and profits of VNĐ214 billion ($9.1 million), cautious targets since market conditions are not favourable. Its consolidated profit after tax was VNĐ2.2 trillion ($93.8 million), down 36.8 per cent and 33 per cent of the target. In 2024-25 it plans to develop two urban projects in HCM City and one satellite urban project in its vicinity.

Car manufacturers get tax extension
The Decree states the extension of the tax payment deadline applies to amounts arising in the tax period of June, July, August and September this year for automobiles manufactured or assembled in Việt Nam. The extension period is from the end of the deadline for paying excise tax in accordance with the law on tax administration to the end of November 20 this year. In case the taxpayer makes an additional declaration of the tax declaration dossier of the extended tax period, leading to an increase in the payable amount and sending it to the tax office before the extended payment time limit expires, the extended amount includes additional tax payable due to additional declarations. In case taxpayers are eligible for an extension to declare and submit excise tax declarations in accordance with current law, they may delay the payment of the payable excise tax amount arising on the excise tax return declared during the extended period. In case an enterprise has branches and affiliated units, which declares excise tax separately from the tax agency directly managing the branch or affiliated unit, branches and affiliated units are also subject to the extension of special consumption tax payment.

Power supply should meet demand from June
HÀ NỘI — The Electricity Vietnam Group (EVN) on Thursday announced that the power supply will basically meet the demand in the northern region from Friday thanks to the increasing water level at hydropower plants’ reservoirs. In addition, technical problems at some thermopower plants have been fixed, allowing them to resume their operations. Drastic measures by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and relevant agencies have helped improve the power supply in the regions that suffered shortages earlier this month. EVN warned that as the power system in the region doesn't have backup capacity, difficult situations may still occur in the future. According to the National Load Dispatch Centre, on June 21, the system’s peak capacity continued to increase to over 41,514 MW, and the total system load reached 852.3 million kWh, down 4.3 million kWh compared to the previous day.

Việt Nam, RoK agree to co-operate in security, national defence
HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) agreed on a common need to cement the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the field of national defence and security and to promote substantive cooperation and technology transfer in the defence industry. Việt Nam would also welcome South Korean businesses to focus on transferring source technology to Việt Nam, Thưởng said. The two sides agreed to continue working closely to effectively implement the RoK’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) support for Việt Nam, Thưởng said. The RoK Government would actively support the enhancement of security and order at sea in Việt Nam based on the Memorandum of Understanding on maritime security signed this time, Yoon said. He added the RoK would expand defence technology cooperation with Việt Nam based on the political trust between the two countries that had been increasingly consolidated.

Việt Nam garment enterprises face increasing global competition
According to General Director of the Việt Nam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) Cao Hữu Hiếu, the group has predicted its difficulties of this year since 2022. For yarn production, the difficulties include low demand for yarn in the market, and more competition in the price of yarn after China officially reopened. Meanwhile, "the garment industry has had only small orders with a few thousand products, and processing price per unit of the garment products has dropped sharply. According to the Việt Nam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS), most manufacturers in the global textile and apparel supply chain, not only Việt Nam, are receiving requests to meet green standards from big brands. Meanwhile, Việt Nam has also committed to reducing emissions to zero by 2050 at COP26.

The Vietnamese team are therefore likely to continue topping teams in Southeast Asia, whilst being placed 15th in Asia. Vietnam in same group with RoK, Nepal, Mongolia at Futsal Asian Cup 2024 qualifiers
Vietnamese futsal team (Photo: VNA)Hanoi (VNA) – Vietnam have been drawn in Group D together with the Republic of Korea (RoK), Nepal, and Mongolia in the qualifiers of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Futsal Asian Cup 2024 which will be held from October 7 to October 11 in Mongolia. The draw results are considered to be favourable for the Vietnamese side as the RoK, Nepal, and hosts Mongolia have lower rankings than Vietnam. The RoK were the runners-up at the 1999 AFC Futsal Championship and are said to pose the most difficulties for the Vietnamese team. However, last year, the Vietnamese team led by coach Giustozzi Diego trounced the RoK 5-1 in the Asian futsal tournament. Group C consists of Iran, Lebanon, Kyrgyzstan, and the Maldives; while Group E comprises Tajikistan, Myanmar, Palestine, and India.

National Press Awards 2022 honour creative journalists
HÀ NỘI — Hundreds of journalists from all over the country on Wednesday evening gathered to attend the National Press Awards awarding ceremony - the highest award for outstanding journalistic works. The awards council said that out of 157 finalist works, the council discussed, evaluated and chose 123 excellent works, of which eight A Prizes, 24 B Prizes, 46 C Prizes and 45 Consolation Prizes. Export-oriented producers struggle to gain foothold at home
Lê Hằng, Communication Director of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said domestic markets have a vast untapped potential for seafood producers. He cited a lack of information as the major cause of Vietnamese producers' weak position in their home field. "Foreign producers always do intensive market research before entering the Vietnamese market. Domestic producers, in contrast, don't bother to do so because they think they know the market inside out," Thành said. The Domestic Markets Department said it was sparing no effort in cementing the ties between large distributors and domestic companies.

Hi-tech agriculture, seeds expo sprouts in HCM City
HCM CITY — The ninth Seeds and Hi-Tech Agriculture Exhibition is taking place at Bình Phú Park in HCM City’s District 6. It features 300 booths showcasing high-quality agricultural produce, hi-tech farming models, new seedlings, bio-tech products, ornamental trees, fresh and processed produce, and food and agricultural equipment. Models of ornamental fish farming and products under the national One Commune One Product programme and from start-up businesses, and the achievements of scientific and technological research are also on display.
