Two brothers who spent decades in prison after being convicted of a 1984 murder in Washington, D.C., they say they did not commit, are seeking a presidential pardon. Charles and Chris Turner were convicted as teenagers for the killing of Catherine Fuller in Northeast Washington, D.C. near the intersection of 8th and H Street, Fox 5 DC reported. “People get upset more that we’re not bitter,” Chris Turner said. Seventeen people were arrested in connection with Fuller’s murder, with eight ultimately convicted, according to Fox 5 DC. The brothers’ fight for a pardon represents a crucial step in restoring their reputation and rights lost in the convictions.

Former 49ers star Terrell Owens and current San Francisco wide receiver Deebo Samuel engaged in a war of words this week. Owens, who racked up 8,572 receiving yards over his standout eight-year run with the Niners, recently questioned whether Samuel was consistently giving his best effort when he was on the football field. “Deebo is not really playing up to Deebo’s standards,” Owens said during a recent appearance on 95.7 The Game in San Francisco. Samuel, who earned First-team All-Pro honors in 2021, apparently caught wind of Owens comments and issued a four-word response. He has recorded 490 receiving yards over the nine games he’s appeared in this season.

But a new study by researchers at USC has found that a popular variety is laden with toxic metals, and estimates retardant use has released 850,000 pounds of these chemicals into the environment since 2009. Each contained at least eight heavy metals. The findings offer a new clue to a phenomenon geochemists have documented for years: heavy metal concentrations in streams and rivers tend to spike after nearby wildfires. A Forest Service report said it could not rule out potential heavy metal impurities in retardant, which was hosed down from firefighting planes. “We’re adding a potentially significant amount of toxic heavy metals when we dump retardant, no matter where we dump it in the watershed,” he said.

NATO and Ukraine will hold emergency talks Tuesday after Russia attacked a central city with an experimental, hypersonic ballistic missile that escalated the nearly 33-month-old war. Speaking Friday to military and weapons industries officials, Putin said Russia is launching production of the Oreshnik. AdvertisementUkraine’s Main Directorate of Intelligence said the Oreshnik missile was fired from Russia’s Astrakhan region and flew 15 minutes before striking Dnipro. LOADING ERROR LOADINGWASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump’s allies on Capitol Hill rallied around Pete Hegseth, Trump’s Pentagon pick, on Thursday even as new details surfaced about allegations that he had sexually assaulted a woman in 2017. The GOP embrace of Hegseth came as another controversial Trump nominee, Matt Gaetz, withdrew from consideration for attorney general. While few Republican senators have publicly criticized any of Trump’s nominees, it became clear after Gaetz’s withdrawal that many had been harboring private concerns about him.
