I didn’t know how to adjust him, so I tried adjusting myself. You can’t fix a problem if you don’t know what it is. I hated my parents, too — though I didn’t know why at the time — for letting it happen. Not that I went begging to excavate the long-buried pain of a 6-year-old who believed her dad didn’t like her, but the therapist should have known better. You can’t fix a problem if you don’t know what it is.

She’s 21, and she sells products on TikTok LIVE for a living. To do that, it has partnered with third-party agencies like this one, run by Chinese Americans with experience in e-commerce. The goal is to train creators to sell products live to a social audience and make the platform a mainstream shopping destination in America. Everyone, you know, like, is on TikTok, but my friends don’t know about TikTok LIVE. That’s how I make my full- time money to pay my bills, pay my rent, pay my credit card off.

The ties between Russia and China have grown despite, or perhaps because of, Western pressure. Mr. Putin’s visit to Harbin, a Chinese city with a Russian past, is part of a trip aimed at demonstrating that he has powerful friends even as his war against Ukraine has isolated him from the West. A statement aimed at the United States pledged that Russia and China would work more closely in critical sectors like energy, space and the military. The growing security ties between the two nuclear-armed powers is a focal point of Mr. Putin’s Harbin visit. Mr. Putin is also using his visit to Harbin, where he attended a trade fair, to promote the flow of goods between the countries.

Actions on audio recordings, marijuana and debates address political vulnerabilities. As he nears the end of his first term, President Biden, a long-standing institutionalist, is growing more comfortable using the full powers of the presidency - and in an election year, his latest actions have the added benefit of potentially shaping the political landscape in his favor. On Thursday morning, Biden asserted executive privilege over audio recordings from the special counsel investigation into his handling of classified documents - blocking Republicans from using clips to attack or embarrass him in political ads. In the afternoon, he publicly endorsed the Justice Department's recommendation to loosen restrictions on marijuana, which came at his urging and could usher in a historic shift in the nation's drug policy that Democrats hope will boost support among young voters and communities of color. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/05/16/biden-executive-privilege-debates/

Cristiano Ronaldo may be in the twilight of his career, but the soccer star still tops Forbes’ list of the world’s highest-paid athletes thanks to his huge wages in Saudi Arabia. According to Forbes’ list, which was released on Thursday, Ronaldo earned $260 million over the last 12 months, $200 million from his club contract with Al-Nassr and $60 million in off-field earnings. Rahm’s total earnings are $218 million, Forbes calculated – $198 million through playing wages alone – while Messi’s are $135 million, more than half of which ($70 million) are off-the-field payments. Ronaldo, one of four Saudi-based soccer players on the list of the 50 highest-paid athletes, made his debut for Al-Nassr in January 2023. No women have ranked inside the top 50 of Forbes’ list for the first time since 2019, while only Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Li Na, and Naomi Osaka have done so since 2012.

The parent company of the Haas F1 team (Haas Automation) is suing former Team Principal Guenther Steiner for trade mark infringement in respect of his autobiography, "Surviving to Drive". Haas Automation never consented to Steiner's use of the Haas Automation Trademarks or the Haas Automation Trade Dress on the Accused Product". This follows a lawsuit filed by Steiner in Mecklenburg, North Carolina a couple of days earlier on 1 May against the Haas F1 team claiming unpaid commissions and the unauthorised use of his name, image and likeness on merchandise following the termination of his contract as team principal. The replacement of Steiner as Haas' F1 Team Principal attracted a lot of media attention particularly given his popularity on the Netflix show "Drive to Survive", and it seems that the break-up has turned ugly. The four claims of relief [in the Haas v Steiner case] include registered trademark infringement, trade dress infringement, false designation of origin and California common law unfair business practices.
